Viewers listen with hope, skepticism

Some sought inspiration. Others expected more contrition over the government's response to the aftermath.

In Las Vegas, Karl Kettlehut watched the speech from a bar at an American Legion Post. He took a wait and see attitude, saying it's "what happens down the road that counts."

Others said the speech was too little, too late. New Orleans resident J.J. Smith watched from Baton Rouge and said the government's response was on a third-world level.

There was support, even applause for the president's remarks from viewers at the "Castaways" bar in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Casino dealer Scott Parker noted that Bush had visited the area and is "just the middle man." Parker says it is Congress that "has the say-so."

I can see why this is such a short blurb. You just can't top that line.
