Iraq announces new rule for private cars
Private cars will be only allowed to move on the roads every other day in an effort to ease gasoline shortage, said a new restriction announced by Iraq's government on Sunday.

A statement issued by the cabinet said the cars whose plates end with even numbers and odd numbers will use the roads every other day.

The new restriction will be imposed from Tuesday, the statement said, adding that the decision will not include the public transport, trucks and government vehicles.

Hundreds of Iraqi drivers are waiting in long queues outside the gas stations in all Iraqi cities, as the government failed to ease gasoline crisis because of violence and lack of security in the war-torn country.

10. A similar
scheme operates in Rome, I believe.

It was introduced to ease traffic pollution, but of course everyone bought old secondhand "banger" cars with odd/even plates, so the problem actually got worse.

Not so much spare cash to get 2nd cars in Baghdad though, of course - so it might work as a temporary fix.

11. Pay attention America
That situation is not far off for us as well. The government will demand first dibs on gasoline and rationing will soon be a reality. got to keep our war machines properly filled with gasoline. First it will be government and next Interstate commerce then regulkart commerce like farming and fishing and such finally regular folk. Probably before Bush* leaves office this will go into effect.
