Soldier from Las Vegas killed in Iraq (Killed Saturday; reported today)

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A soldier from Las Vegas has been killed in Iraq, the military said Tuesday.

Army Spc. Joseph L. Martinez, 21, was killed during a battle Saturday in the northern Iraq city of Tal Afar, the Defense Department said.

Martinez was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Carson, Colo.

1. They only contact after they reach the family. They may have had
problems contacting the soldiers emergency contact.

2. Up until lately they were reporting deaths without releasing the names...
...until after they contacted the family. That appears to have changed recently.
