Ride With Armstrong Among Bush's Plans
WACO, Texas (AP) - President Bush is getting plenty of bike time during his ranch vacation and next week he even gets to hit the trails with seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong.

Armstrong told ABC's ``This Week'' on Sunday that he'll travel to Crawford, Texas, next Saturday to ride mountain bikes with the president around Bush's ranch.

``It's a dream scenario for me,'' Armstrong said. ``Now that President Bush doesn't run anymore, he rides his mountain bike fanatically. People wonder why he's stays at the ranch so long, it might be the mountain bike trails.''

It also must be a dream scenario for Bush to ride with Armstrong, a fellow Texan and cancer survivor who last month won his most recent Tour de France. Bush has become an avid biker in the last couple of years, after a knee injury forced him to give up his jogging routine.

31. Toby Keith also has doubts about the Iraq War
But he's as pro-Bush as he can be!

You don't believe me? Here's a link: http://www.post-gazette.com/ae/20030926toby0926fnp5.asp

My point is that even though Mr. Armstrong disagrees with Bush "on just about everything," he still may very well be a Bush supporter. Even Kerry wonders about him:

"SAINT-ETIENNE, France --Sen. John Kerry thinks Lance Armstrong would make a terrific politician -- but fears he'd be running for the other party."

http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/kerry/articles/2005/07/24/kerry_sees_armstrong_as_a_politician/.

I was completely FLAMED over on DailyKos for saying that Mr. Armstrong is a Republican, so I won't say so here. Instead, I'll say he's a moderate who is completely lacking in principles. It's not that he's visiting a Republican, it's that he's visiting THAT Republican. Besides that, as another poster says, he's a SCAB, scabbing the Cindy line. This is about a Bush photo op to take Cindy's name off the front page of the newspaper.

If Mr. Armstrong cared about his country, he would take his bully pulpit and use it to snub the guy who got us into this murderous mess in Iraq. Yes, Mr Armstrong supports cancer research, but don't we all, and if we all were famous and could raise 9 million dollars to support it, wouldn't we? Especially if we were cancer survivors ourselves??

The notion that Armstrong visiting Bush to get support for cancer research is a bit naive. Bush would only give money to cancer research if he or his oil buddies could benefit. Otherwise, forget it. And I think Mr. Armstrong knows about this going in.

30. I don't think that's quite accurate ...
I know people really quite close to Lance, and from what I've heard from them and what I know from personal experience, I really don't think it's accurate to say that he just dumped his wife out of the blue.

I can tell you first hand that racing bicycles at any sort of competitive level is indescribably hard on relationships, and after only being able to see him a few hours a day, a few weeks a year, I couldn't blame her for wanting to leave him.

4. Armstrong disagrees with Bush's policies on most things...
Armstrong is also known to be very non-religious.
Maybe he is going to try to get more govt money for cancer research.

"Armstrong also spent some time during the Tour de France with Bush's former rival, 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, who followed in a car during the final time trial. Armstrong said he's not taking sides in politics even though he's opposed to the war in Iraq.

``As a survivor, I think we would be better spending money on an illness like cancer,'' he said. "

But don't make it a habit, Lance. I know you are only trying to win support for your cause, and I applaud that. But Bush isn't interested in your cause, he wants your face next to his in a photo to prove you support him in all things. He has no integrity of his own, so he is trying to steal yours.

Ask Magic Johnson about such things.

10. Why forgive him?
If he disagrees with the policies of this administration, show it by not entertaining *. Let's face it, * is not going to engage Armstrong in a debate over policy or principle. The only way to make the point is to snub him. Instead of riding with *, Armstrong should show solidarity with Cindy Sheehan. Same thing with sports teams and other who might otherwise visit * for the obligatory photo op. Don't show up. Stand up for your principles.

Lance - stand with Cindy.

12. I don't know that that is his principle
From the few times I've heard him speak on politics, he says we should spend more money on cancer research and less on things like war. He may not have a high political awareness. His big issue is cancer, and he's doing what he can for it.

He'll figure out that he's being used and will get nothing out of it, but it will take a snub or two. Right now he's just trying to get something done for his cause. So I forgive him, for now.

32. I hope that Bush is so delusional as to challenge Armstrong to a race
And gets his ass handed to him on a platter!

Here's an article that reveals *'s Walter Mitty complex ...
"He jokes that he was leading the "peleton," the rolling swarm of bicyclists in races like the Tour de France -- a race he watched regularly this month before Armstrong's victory Sunday."

"In one remote section, cattle stare back at him as he rides a path littered with cow dung."

Oh, boy. I hope that with his reflexes, Armstrong is able to dart out of the way as Bush skids and lands right in the poop!

63. Why He Fell - He Grabbed His Front Brake
And in the next paragraph, if Bush hadn't hit the brake on the front wheel instead of braking the back wheel as he should have on a downhill, he wouldn't have done an endo. He should really get some coaching on how to properly ride a bike and maybe he wouldn't fall so much.Or read a book on how to bike properly.

I wiped out a lot the first few years I started mountain biking too, but I never tried to look like I was some champion back then.

47. Bush to ride with cycling champion Armstrong
President George W. Bush, an avid cyclist, will test his mettle against Lance Armstrong when the cycling superstar visits the president's Texas ranch this weekend.

Armstrong, 33, a cancer survivor who has won seven straight Tour de France competitions, will ride with Bush, 59, on the 1,600-acre (650-hectare) ranch on Saturday.

"The president has said that Lance is an incredible inspiration to people from all walks of life, that he's a true American champion, so I think they'll enjoy their visit on Saturday," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said on Tuesday.

Bush turned to mountain biking after a knee injury forced him to give up running. He took a small group of reporters on a two-hour ride on his ranch in the August heat last weekend. There was one rule -- no one overtakes the president.

He won the freakin Tour 7 times in a row! No one has ever done that before (probably no one will match that for a VERY long time, if ever). He doesn't need the publicity. The only thing he is accomplishing by doing this is giving the blivet some good press. I'd pass, I'd urge him to pass. Then again, if he thoroughly humiliates * in public, well, that might redeem him in my eyes.
