WP: Americans Warned About Overseas Travel (Iraq "spillover" is a concern)
Americans Are Warned About Overseas Travel
By Robin Wright
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, August 3, 2005; Page A16

The State Department issued an updated worldwide caution on terrorism yesterday, warning Americans about the threat of extremist violence against U.S. citizens and interests abroad.

The warning did not list countries, nor did department officials offer any additional specifics about threats. The statement said "current information" indicates that al Qaeda and affiliated terrorist groups are planning attacks against U.S. interests in "multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East."

The department's official caution, which supersedes an alert issued in March, said attacks against private and official targets could come in the form of assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings or bombings.

The targets could include places where Americans meet or visit, such as residential areas, hotels and restaurants, as well as places of worship, schools, clubs, business offices and public areas, the caution said. It also noted that "demonstrations and rioting" can occur with little or no warning.

As causes of concern, the department cited spillover from the U.S. intervention in Iraq in and outside the Middle East, as well as other recent terrorist attacks in Europe. "Ongoing events in Iraq have resulted in demonstrations and associated violence in several countries; such events are likely to continue for the foreseeable future," the statement said. "U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster their personal security."...

1. But, the whole point of making brown people die for us "over there"
is so that us white people are safer.

4. Boxing you in?
Sometimes I wonder if this is one of the biggest 'gains' from intnl. terrorism, seen from the Bushistas pow.

Of course, that would be impossible to prove.

9. Dah! We canceled our Europe trip 3 years ago....
We didn't need little bush to tell us that it was dangerous for us to travel to Europe. My neighbors, republicans, went to Germany to see their family and they got into a huge political fight over little bush and his policies. They finally accepted that people in Germany hate little bush hitler.

10. Love the "little bush" title. Says it all.
When you mention your neighbors "accepted" that Germans see Bush for what he is, how is their acceptance termed? In other words, are they agreeing to disagree with their relatives in Germany, or do they regard them as traitors to the human race, as most wingnuts who support little Bush's murderous, heinous policies tend to do?

14. Little bush....and my neighbors...
I used to call little bush small man bush, but he's not a man. My neighbors said, 'they don't get the whole picture.' I don't like getting into political fights with my neighbors. I just said, 'we have to face it, the whole world is against us and the fact is that bush is not doing the right things. What bush does is not looked on as democratic.' My hubby is a republican so they think I am too.

He's a spoiled child trapped in the body of an adult.

18. My teenage son traveled through Europe
last summer. He spent 3 months traveling around, so he saw quite a bit. He said that everywhere they went, "people hate Bush". He said he couldn't believe how much hatred there was for the man.

Even his 2 traveling buddies ended up hating Bush, even though they come from wealthy families which vote Repug.

I didn't see it so much in Sweden. We spent 3 weeks there, and I think I did the most complaiing. Our hosts just smiled and poured more coffee. But maybe it's more hostile further south in Europe.

19. It's not HOSTILE here!
Yes, they dislike Bush over here, but that's just a fluke caused by their excellent educational system.

I'm living in France, and I can tell you that Europeans aren't being nasty to Americans.

I've had guests come over who LOVE BUSH, and when they bring it up in front of the French, it's as if the Republican just let a big fart at the dinner table . . . everyone politely ignores the imbecile.

Bush and the State Department are just trying to create Fortress America with their warning . . . they always warn after the fact . . . notice how they didn't predict the London or Madrid bombings.

Come on over . . . enjoy being surrounded by Progressives and a majority that dislike BUSH . . .just don't drape yourself in the American flag . . . Bush has made that a target.

11. Saying that the Iraq Invasion produces jihadists is "treason."
That is, unless the State Department issues an advisory effectively admitting the fact.
