Dean: Bush Court pick clear move to cover for Rove/Rawstory
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 09:36 PM by cal04
Statement by DNC Chairman on the Nomination of John Roberts to the Supreme Court

Washington - Faced with a growing scandal surrounding the involvement of Deputy White House chief of Staff Karl Rove and Vice President Cheney's Chief of Staff Lewis Libby in the leaking the identity of a covert CIA operative, President Bush announced his nomination of John Roberts to the Supreme Court late this evening. Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement on the nomination:

"It is disappointing that when President Bush had the chance to bring the country together, he instead turned to a nominee who may have impressive legal credentials, but also has sharp partisan credentials that cannot be ignored.

"Democrats take very seriously the responsibility to protect the individual rights of all Americans and are committed to ensuring that ideological judicial activists are not appointed to the Supreme Court. The Senate Judiciary Committee will now have the opportunity to see if Judge Roberts can put his partisanship aside, and live up to a Supreme Court Justice's duty to uphold the rights and freedoms of every American and the promise of equal justice for all."

2. exactly ...and our response for the time being should be......
We don't know all the facts, and it's important that we not prejudge. We need to let the Judiciary Committee do it's job and hold hearings. And the Judiciary committee are the ones who are in the best position to gather all the facts and draw the conclusions. And at that point, we will be more than happy to talk about it.

Sound familiar? Take out Judiciary Committee and replace with the word investigation and this is what we've been hearing for more than a week from little snotty McClellen.

folks, they can't debate themselves. Taking their attitude and using it for the Roberts nomination, will shut down debate and allow us to focus on Traitor Rove and Co.

8. I meant I don't see that in Dean's words. You're right about the headline
at Raw Story, but I don't see those words coming from Dean.

I like them, though. :)

10. as always, he's right on. I guess that's the way Rawstory interpreted
what he said

16. I see that, but News Max is picking up on that as being from Dean.
At least I think so, but I am very easily confused by the media these days.

:silly:

9. I thought the same thing...
Rawstory's headline doesn't really match Dean's comment.

14. Is Dean saying his appointment is a slam dunk?
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 10:40 PM by SleeplessinSoCal
Isn't there a chance to fillibuster if his "credentials" are too partisan?

Edit:

This part of Dean's statement offers hope to let Americans understand what this guy stands for:

"The Senate Judiciary Committee will now have the opportunity to see if Judge Roberts can put his partisanship aside, and live up to a Supreme Court Justice's duty to uphold the rights and freedoms of every American and the promise of equal justice for all."

And remember - he's only 50 yrs. old. He could be around for ages.

15. Where did Raw Story get that statement? News Max saying...
in an article that Dean is claiming conspiracy...He said nothing like that...They mention MoveOn as well. This is really weird.

I won't link to NewsMax, but here is a lead off paragraph;
"Dean Sees Conspiracy in Roberts Pick Too

DNC chief Howard Dean joined liberal group MoveOn.org in claiming President Bush's nomination of John Roberts was an effort to deflect attention from Plamegate."

Where are they getting that?

18. Ok, they are interpreting the first paragraph from the DNC....
as being Dean's actual words.

I got it now. Confusing though.
