E-mails: Reed knew tribal money funded anti-gambling campaigns
http://www.ajc.com/news/content/news/stories/0605/23reed.html

Washington — Lobbyist Jack Abramoff sought guidance from political strategist Ralph Reed in disguising Indian tribal money sent to anti-gambling campaigns whose leaders were wary of accepting casino cash, according to documents released Wednesday.

The e-mail exchanges also indicate that Reed knew from the beginning of his professional association with Abramoff in 1999 that a Mississippi Indian tribe with casino interests was bankrolling much of his anti-gambling activity in Alabama against a state-sponsored lottery and video poker.

Even as religious conservatives denied an alliance with out-of-state gamblers, Reed — acting on behalf of gaming opponents — submitted campaign budgets through Abramoff to the Mississippi Band of Choctaws, according to the e-mails.

The cost of placing inserts in church bulletins and organizing a rally of pastors in Alabama, along with hundreds of thousands of dollars in TV and radio ads, was borne by the Choctaws, according to invoices submitted by Reed.

The e-mail records, dated from 1998 to 2002, were made public by the U.S. Senate Indian Affairs Committee, which was holding a hearing on Abramoff's dealings with his Indian clients.

1. So much for "thou shall not bear false witness"...
I seem to remember that was one of those commandments that is allegedly a central part of our supposed "national character"!

2. bet Ralphie and his backers didn't realize that this wasn't
going to be a good election cycle for him to become prominant. By running for Lt Gov in georgia - this story - esp his actions along with CC funds in Ala - tied to abromoff - will get extra airplay in the state - keeping it in the media cycle in that region longer than it plays in other places. Bwahaha on Ralphie!

3. No wonder Zell Miller (Insane-GA) endorsed him.
Former Senator Miller only endorses thoroughly corrupt hypocrites.

5. Used to only take being caught with a dead woman or a live boy
now, even lying to the Congress and America to go to war is no big deal to the repuglicans! What's a little theft and corruption? I think they now call it a 'temptest in a teapot dome scandle' or some such thing.

13. Yes. I live in Georgia, and this
will be interesting. If he wins, we can point out the incredible hypocrisy of the Christians who voted for a clearly corrupt politician. But it will be up to us to keep that huge discrepancy in the news -- that big break between what Christians profess to stand for and what they actually do. Just like Bush.
It's scary. The evangelicals here really show up at the polls.

12. McClain is manipulating enough things to look like he isn't like the
rest but he's saving others that might help him or keep people from getting too mad. He wants to be prez so he will twist himself into pretzels to be just enough progressive to get some and just enough conservative not to lose some.

I want Howdy doody Reed in prison. Now.
