Venezuelan VP Rangel:The CIA is plotting to kill Chávez
Venezuelan VP José Vicente Rangel Friday in Havana claimed that President Hugo Chávez' life "is seriously threatened," and put the blame on the CIA for plotting to kill the Venezuelan head of State.

"President Chávez' life is in serious danger," Rangel said during a summit on terrorism held in Habana and hosted by Cuban president Fidel Castro, news agency EFE reported.

Rangel added that both Colombian paramilitary troopers and hired assassins and Cuban exiles in Miami are plotting to assassinate Chávez, while "the Central Intelligence Agency is pulling the strings."

Chavez said .."if anything happens to me..the military are prepared and know what to do"?..I'm paraphrasing..not verbatim.

In other words the military in Venezuela will be putting things into place so they can carry on if something happens to Chavez.

Viva Chavez!

25. Yep and they have announced they have specific plans for Chavez dying.
So that there would be no struggle for power and they could make a seemless transition. They are training peasants to fight and arming them.

But without nuclear weapons, thier deterrence is very limited.

or as they are also called Al CIADA!

But killing Chavez is right up the CIA's alley after all they are the ones who knocked off JFK, Poppy Bush was the agent in charge of that one back in 63!they also hit RFK, MLK, John Lennon and probably JFK Jr too.

16. Does Venezuela's position with the US
...have to do with that book, 'Confessions of an Economic Hitman'? Did they get a loan from the World Bank, and Chavez saw what 'repaying' that loan was doing to his country (stratifying it between the Haves and Have-Nots), so he's basically told the World Bank to piss off, he's using his country's wealth to help his people, and now the jackals are after him? Sorry for the run-on oversimplification, but I've been wondering about this. I can't find that Chavez has done anything to deserve the bad press he's getting from the WH, unless it's to do with the World Bank. And you just know our elitists would rather drag someone through the mud for being a "dangerous socialist" than admit it had anything to do with loan sharks.

20. Here's what he's doing "wrong"
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 09:28 AM by JNelson6563
There is no doubt that when you dance with the world bank you will be required to let private interests buy up your country's natural resources. Now with Venezuala we're not just talking water and maybe some tin mines, no, as you know we're talking oil!

Of course with such a valuable resource a leader could do mountains of good for the poor in their country. If he is spending the money on schools, housing and other necessities to the poor then large corporations who rule the world aren't getting their "fair share" now are they?

32. That's what I thought
Awww, how very sad for the World Bank. Maybe they should stop taking advantage of poor countries by making loan deals with dictators who sell their peoples' resources out from under them and keep all the money for themselves. Dictators aren't forever, but the people are.

Suckers.

Thanks for clarifying, Julie. Viva Chavez!

24. As best as I can tell (Dollar Hegemony)...
Chavez is very close to nationalizing foriegn oil assets, beginning with raising taxes on foreign oil companies. Perhaps more importantly, he is beginning to barter oil with other developing countries rather than pricing non-US-bound oil exports in dollars. Many say the real reason we finally invaded Iraq is that Saddam Hussein began to price oil in Euros under the oil for food program.

Greater than any other threat to US interests is the status of dollar hegemony.

Chavez' oil-for-barter program is one step away from directly challening dollar oil pricing.

Our entire credit-soaked economy depends on preventing this.

33. So basically the USA is the only country with the right
...to self-determination? We're not responsible for the mess WE'VE (our own government) made? (I'm being rhetorical.) That's the very clear message I get from BushCo, although I know previous administrations played the same shell game to protect our 'national interests'.

I've heard the same thing about Hussein as you. The history there points to it as well; the guy who was in charge before Saddam, a long time ago, wanted to nationalize their oil and started dealing with the Soviets. That's when we stepped in and made a deal with Hussein and the Ba'athists: we'd help him into power if he promised not to nationalize Iraqi oil. I don't know if this is true but the pieces sure fit.

We've caused an awful lot of misery in the world with our gluttony for oil. And we've wasted all that time as well, not bothering to find an alternative we KNEW we'd need one day. We, the people, really have no idea what's been done in our name.

And some wonder why there are terrorists out to get us.

...Quite frankly, I don't think the CIA is behind this one...the Pentagon-based NeoCon OSP is probably the prime mover along with various military intelligence groups.

30. Patronize Citgo for your gas.
Venezuelan oil is the prize for the BFEE. Buying Citgo gas should (in theory) help the Venezuelan economy, which, in turn, will keep the Venezuelan people happy and loyal to Chavez.
