RawStory: Talking points part deux: Hit Hillary, Pelosi over DeLay tee
"The fallout from NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” episode featuring the Tom DeLay T-shirt continued over the Memorial Day break," Roll Call's Mary Ann Akers will dish Tuesday. "House Republican message makers, back in their districts and vacation destinations, are armed with talking points on what to say about the episode that so riled their fearless Majority Leader."

Roll Call obtained a set of talking points issued by House GOP Conference Vice Chairman Jack Kingston (Ga.). In response to a Law and Order episode featuring a police officer who declared “Maybe we should put out an APB for somebody in a Tom DeLay T-shirt,” the House GOP aimed at House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).

Kingston, Akers reveals, "has been out on the TV circuit blaring outrage. Kingston instructed members who serve on the House GOP message team to “repeat that this was a PERSONAL swipe at Tom DeLay during sweeps week.” In a memo to his message folks, Kingston gave four talking points, telling Members to stay on message that “L&O” finished “dead last” in sweeps week, is biased and liberal, and, in what he called 'outrageous and over-the-top,' associated DeLay with a 'racist, anti-semitic judge killer.'"

Tom Delay can dish it out but when its his turn to take it, he whines and hides behind the slur machine of the GOP

1. L&O finished last in the ratings?
Why do I find this hard to believe?

It certainly isn't 'biased and liberal'. That talking point is easy to refute.

2. No, but remember they 'catapult the propaganda' by repeating falsehoods
until no one remembers what the reality is.

6. Well, to be fair, it IS biased and liberal. Any big fan of L&O knows a
hundred different slams to various people that are currently in the spotlight, most of which are conservatives. Not to mention, most of the characters in the show have made their views known.

BUT, it is a fucking fictional TV show. Who the hell cares?

8. big fan and I don't "know" they are liberal
especially now when we have to hear Fred Thompson's view of every detail. Their treatment of gays has been less than stellar.

14. Take a look at the last few months. There's a stab at GW's social
security plan, a stab at government intervention in the Schaivo case, as well as this DeLay stab. Oh yeah, and an episode dedicated to the Military giving soldiers a pill that makes them go crazy.

My impression about the handling of gays is that he is pointing out how homosexuals are treated in society today. Since he deals with real life, there has to be both sides of the story presented. I can't remember a time where he intentionally bashed gay people without presenting the fact that the people doing the bashing are the bad guys.

As for Fred Thompson, I didn't like him at first. Now, though, he is showing himself to be one of conservatives who knows the difference between good and evil, and is understanding of both sides... far from the DeLay's and Santorum's in the world.

They do exist. :-)

27. remember the Demo Gay Gov?`
they added a few crimes to that "straight from the headlines" bunch managing to trash Gays and Dems in one show. Thompson, blech, I'm still waiting for his evidence of Bill Clinton's "treason" with China integrity indeed.

12. The DA is Fred Thompson
conservative politician/actor from Tennessee. And he plays a conservative DA.

So no, the show is NOT biased and liberal. Anyone who believes that doesn't watch it.

15. Just because you have a conservative on the show doesn't mean that
Edited on Mon May-30-05 11:51 PM by merwin
the show isn't biased and liberal. I can't remember a single plotline that forwarded the conservative agenda. I can think of MANY offhand that were deliberate stabs at the conservative agenda.

Anytime you are truely dealing with TRUTH and JUSTICE, you're going to end up on the liberal side of things, because truth and justice are not part of the neocon dictionary.

19. There have been several stories
with conservative slants. Recently, one involved a soldier home from Iraq who was killed by a relative of an inmate at Abu Ghraib.

21. That would be Paradigm (This season's premier).
I believe the person who did the murdering was the sister of an Iraqi who was tortured at Abu Gharib. The episode brought to light in primetime TV the horrors of the Abu Gharib torture, and how we are causing Iraqi citizens to hate us because of this.

That seems like an episode that the (R)'s wouldn't really like too much.

16. Actually, that special episode was #1 when it aired in that time slot.
Edited on Mon May-30-05 11:54 PM by johnaries
It aired 10 PM Wednesday night 5/26, instead of it's usual Sunday night slot.

"At 10 p.m., the season finale of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" shot NBC into the lead with a 9.7/15. "Alias" closed its season with a 6.5/10 for ABC, while "Amber Frey" came in at 6.3/10 for CBS."

3. How the hell are they tying this to HIllary and Nancy?
I can understand why they're pissed about the comment, but, it's a TV SHOW folks! If you want to gripe, then gripe to the writers, of the network, or the sponsors!

I thought it was funny! The same as I laugh at Leno, Stewart, Saturday Night LIve, and all the other TV shows that make slanted remarks about lots of politicians.

Is the guilty little boy feeling threatened because they're hitting a little too close to the truth????

4. Since this is about Delay threats against judges, they intend to change
the subject to abortion by declaring pro-choice people wear Nancy/Hilliary tees.

7. And what show cast Fred Thompson - Repug - on their show
as DA boss and let's him espouse RW judicial views?

I wish for the days there were smart network entertainment shows on that weren't afraid to be political ala "All in the Family", "Smothers Brothers", "Murphy Brown", etc.

11. Awe common, I like Fred in that role.
BTW, he wasn't a bad Senator either. I remember seeing his frustration when he headed some investigative committee and got NO cooperation from his Pub friends. He hated the atmosphere in DC, and he decided to go back to show business where people are actually friends, and you make a whole lot more $$ too.

17. How is he 'exposing right wing judicial views'? The ones I hear are simply
a true republican (AKA, opposite of the current administration) trying to be a voice of moderation.

"The Patriot Act, yeah, well, I read that in its original title: 1984."

24. They're making progress, slowly. They used to attack cartoons.
e.g. SpongeBob and whatever it was that Quayle went after. Now they're attacking real people but the people are actors so the Repulicans are still not reality-based.

We need to encourage this behavior. The Republican-cartoon dialog was embarassing to watch.

25. This appears to be linked to Raw Story
Instead of ROLL CALL where the story appears to have originated by your post. Shouldn't you be using the proper links when you post?

Otherwise it would seem to be editorializing from Raw Story, not Late Breaking News, and self promotion in a high traffic area of the DU.
