MALE, Maldives -- Former President Bill Clinton has canceled his trip to tsunami-hit areas of Maldives because of exhaustion, a U.N. official said Saturday.

Cherie Hart, a spokeswoman for the U.N. Development Program and coordinator of Clinton's visit, said the former president, who underwent a heart bypass operation in September, was not sick.

"He's plain pooped and he wants to slow the schedule down," Hart said.

3. It takes at least 6 months to clear the anesthesia from your system
plus about two years to get anwhere near normal, and that's if you keep doing your cadiac rehab faithfully.

He needs to slow down a little until he's well. He's had two major surgeries in 6 months, and needs to listen to what his body has been telling him.

5. he really needs to stop and just take a rest
i don't want anything to happen to him. we really need him.

but he has always been the type who loves work . even during his vacations he would have a hard time staying away from work and just relaxing.

6. remember when he hurt his knee (tripping down stairs?) and had
to do rehab and lose weight? I think he hired a small crew of people to devise and help carry out his treatment and eating plan, over a long period of time.

I hope he and Hillary have done the same for his surgery rehab. It's scary to think of him exhausted AND still recovering from such serious surgery. Please - take care, Big Dog!

7. Exactly.
I thought he was pushing it with all that traveling. Traveling is exhausting I don't care how luxurious it is.

I'm glad he used his brains to slow down. Or Hillary and Chelsea's brains.

Clinton scales back tsunami tour

From correspondents in Male

May 29, 2005

FORMER US president Bill Clinton, the UN special envoy for tsunami relief, has cancelled a planned trip to a group of devastated coral islands in the Maldives because of dangerous flying conditions.

A spokesman dismissed reports that Mr Clinton, who underwent heart surgery last year, had been forced to call off the trip to the Laamu atoll due to exhaustion.

"He is feeling terrific, but we have been told that the weather in the islands is not okay for flying," Erskine Bowles said.

"We will stay in Male. I can tell you he is not exhausted, but he has worn us out."

He said Mr Clinton would go ahead with meetings on the main atoll of Male to discuss the reconstruction of the islands.
