General says new Iraq offensive aimed at suicide bombers' "underground railroad"

http://www.kctv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3401921

BAGHDAD You'll see it unfold over the next week -- an offensive called Operation Lightning -- the largest Iraqi-led security operation since the U-S invasion began.

Lieutenant General David Petraeus (peh-TRAY'-uhs), who leads the Multi National security transition command in Iraq, tells A-P Radio that 40-thousand Iraqis from an array of police, security and military units will be involved.

Petraeus says U-S troops will play only a support role, working most closely with the least experienced Iraqi units.

General Petraeus says a major aim of this offensive is to flush out the "facilitators" and "enablers." They run what Petraeus calls "an underground railroad of sorts" that funnels foreign fighters in place to execute suicide bombing attacks.

3. Repeat after me HO CHI MIN TRAIL. HO CHI MIN TRAIL. .........
Bull shit Gen Petraeus; total bull shit.

Get your soldiers out of Iraq. That is all you should be doing if you care for them and America.

Peace.

4. This reminds me of Robin Williams' routine
about Congress openly discussing the top-sectret plan to assassinate Saddam Hussein. The sad part is, this isn't funny.

5. This is how it will unfold:
Scenario 1: The offensive is successfull and roots out many "insurgents".

"This just reveals the extent to which the enemy continues to be entrenched in Iraq. We can't withdraw for the foreseeable future"

Scenario 2: The offensive is a failure, the Iraqis get their butts kicked.

"Iraqi security forces are not yet ready to assume full control of the country. US forces must remain."

9. Petraeus says U-S troops will play only a support role
Translation: the Iraqi "troops" are nothing but window dressing to try to put an Iraqi face on a US op. The fact that general peh-TRAY'-uhs made the announcement says it all.
