White House Calm Before CIA Leak Deadline
SCOTT LINDLAW
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The White House projected a business-as-usual air Saturday, though a Tuesday deadline to turn over documents in a leak investigation hung over nearly 2,000 staff members.

Interviews with nearly a dozen White House officials found no sense of urgency among the few workers in the office on a weekend.

snip....

Some officials made jokes about the inquiry; others complained bitterly that it was being driven by Democrats eager to fan a White House scandal.

No White House official has received a subpoena or hired a lawyer, several said.

So let me get this right! Aschcroft still hasn't subpoened the WH officials just the State Dept and the Defense

I thought the CIA reportedly directly to WH like Cheney! :bounce:

3. And the coverup begins
So let me get this right! Aschcroft still hasn't subpoened the WH officials just the State Dept and the Defense

He has to keep his priorities in order. Protecting the leaker--err, I mean--protecting the integrity of the president--is much more important than protecting national security.

10. What if Ashcroft is the "leaker"?
I'm sure he had his press "contacts" when he was a Senator. Who's to say he didn't keep them once appointed AG?

22. He IS a "high administration official", after all
I certainly hope he and Cheney have to answer questions too. Yeah, right.

The presumptions of these curs are just amazing.

Personally, I think John Dean's right: Plame should sue Bush personally for restraint of trade, reckless endangerment, intentional infliction of emotional distress and whatever else crosses their minds.

11. Sign petition: Ashcroft needs to appoint special prosecuter (moveon.org)
Ashcroft needs to recuse himself as he was appointed by Bush, and is therefore not impartial in investigating is boss.

Sign the petition and PASS IT ON! O8)

From moveon.org:

Investigate The White House

According to the Washington Post, "two top White House officials" committed a high crime in the first weeks of July. They handed over the identity of an American secret agent to journalists. Republicans contend that an investigation by the Justice Department will reveal any wrongdoing. But Justice Department chief John Ashcroft -- who was appointed by President Bush and who employed key Bush advisor Karl Rove -- is hardly neutral. If we don't speak up now, the investigation could be left in John Ashcroft's hands, and the perpetrators and the crime could be swept under the rug.

20. HERE'S HOW TO FAN A WHITE HOUSE SCANDAL:
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 09:09 PM by calimary
Call your reps tomorrow (Monday) morning, first thing. FOR FREE:

Call the TOLL FREE Capitol Hill Switchboard:

1 (800) 839 - 5276

1 (800) 648 - 3516

They'll transfer you, free, to any Senate or House office you name.

Also try www.congress.org and go to their directory. It'll give you phone numbers, plus emails and fax numbers, for anybody on the Hill. DO IT!!! You can bet they're getting pressure GALORE to sweep this under the rug. The only way to combat that, short of hiring our own investigators and buying our own newspapers and networks and reporters, is to NAG!!!! If repetition works for the rethugs, let's have it work for US, too.

on edit - another idea. WHEN YOU CALL: Be SURE to call at least one rethug. Moderate and potentially wavering Senators include Olympia Snowe and Lincoln Chafee. Plus Jim Jeffords, who's probably in agreement about this already. The rethugs NEED to hear, and know, that the majority of Americans does NOT agree with them, and WANTS AN INDEPENDENT PROSECUTOR! A MAJORITY, according to the polls, sees a CLEAR, undeniable conflict of interest. CITE THE POLLS WHEN YOU CALL.
