Bush Lauds Progress in Terrorism Fight (This morning's radio address)
WASHINGTON May 21, 2005 — President Bush says the United States is making strides in defeating terrorists and advancing freedom across the world, even as anti-American protests escalate in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Terrorists know that there is no room for them as freedom takes root in the broader Middle East, so they are fighting to stop its progress," the president said in his weekly radio address Saturday as first lady Laura Bush was promoting democracy on a trip to the Mideast.

Bush said he'll discuss "freedom's remarkable progress" in Afghanistan when he meets Monday with visiting President Hamid Karzai. He said Afghanistan now has a constitution and an elected president and its citizens will return to the polls this September to elect provincial councils in the lower house of the National Assembly.

But deadly anti-American protests across Afghanistan are threatening Karzai's central government. Karzai blamed opponents of his ties with the United States and of his reconciliation efforts with the ousted, repressive Taliban regime.

5. his optimism and lofty chatter is deadly!!--denial is killing our troops

..The White House has blamed a Newsweek report later retracted by the magazine for igniting the violence. The May 9 story said Pentagon investigators had found evidence that interrogators at the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, placed copies of the Quran, the Muslim holy book, in washrooms to unsettle suspects and flushed one down a toilet.

"We're helping Afghanistan's elected government solidify these democratic gains and deliver real change," Bush told listeners. "A nation that once knew only the terror of the Taliban is now seeing a rebirth of freedom, and we will help them succeed."

He also cited democratic change in Iraq, where thousands of Shiites this week stomped on American flags painted on roads outside mosques in a show of anger over the U.S. presence there.

Meantime, a picture of Saddam Hussein wearing only his underwear appeared on the front pages of the New York Post and Britain's The Sun.

The U.S. military condemned the photos and launched an investigation into who took them, but tensions spiraled throughout Iraq as more than 10,000 protesters heeded a call by anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr to step on and drive over American and Israeli flags painted on roads outside mosques.

4. Bush praises ties with Afghanistan despite riots (Weekly Radio Address)
Edited on Sat May-21-05 09:41 AM by maddezmom
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Saturday hailed a "rebirth of freedom" in Afghanistan, as he sought to emphasize close ties with the country's government despite last week's deadly anti-American protests.

"We're helping Afghanistan's elected government solidify these democratic gains and deliver real change," Bush said in his weekly radio address. "A nation that once knew only the terror of the Taliban is now seeing a rebirth of freedom, and we will help them succeed."

Bush will meet Afghan President Hamid Karzai at the White House on Monday in the wake of violence sparked by a now retracted Newsweek story that said the Muslim holy book was flushed down the toilet at the Guantanamo Bay prison.

Sixteen people were killed and more than 100 injured in the protests in Afghanistan, which were the worst since U.S. forces ousted the Taliban in late 2001.

Bush did not mention either the protests or the Newsweek story in his radio address.

13. Lying piece of shit.
I swear if I met the devil, he would be more pleasant than George Bush.

The thing about Bush, is that he connects with our inner rage. He connects somewhere deep inside our cortex; maybe the reptile brain, where he sets of this chain reaction in the neurons, frazzled and agitated, whenever he opens his mouth to speak.

I've felt it MANY times. I used to be afraid of it. I would get SO angry when I listened to his voice (God forbid to see his face), that my trembling hand would reach out to the radio dial and get rid of him QUICK.

I got rid of my TV because of Einstein.

The things he says are so ludicrous, so heinous that there's no point in even countering it. There's an old saying, "never argue with a madman" and I suppose in this situation it's true.

7. it's a real magic word, isn't it?
He can cover up a multitude of crimes and sins by just repeating "freedom" over...and over...and over...again. It's just meaningless drivel. This man is the utter opponent of freedom for anyone in the world, starting with his own country.

it really would be hilarious
if it wasn't so tragic and frightening that they just keep spewing this garbage. Bush could broadcast from his bunker after every other country in the world nukes us to extinction and he'd say that despite the fact that him and his family are the only americans left without severe radiation poisoning, freedom is taking root and we'll have everlasting peace soon. I'd like to have some peace before I reach my grave if it's all the same to you, you lying warmongering prick.

I feel better.
