BBC: Defiant Uzbeks stage new protest
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4566533.stm

Several hundred people have held a rally in the Uzbek town of Korasuv, where residents threw out their leaders last week in a popular protest.
More than 500 people gathered outside government buildings, a day after Uzbek troops took back control of the town.

Unconfirmed reports said up to 80 people had been arrested.

The Uzbek government has rejected calls for an international inquiry into last week's bloody crackdown on protesters in the nearby city of Andijan.

The alleged massacre in Andijan triggered last week's uprising in Korasuv. Although the authorities are back in control of Korasuv, protesters are angry at the arrest of two of the leaders of the rebellion.

These people are so very brave.... :(

2. Uzbekistan is a dictatorship
Uzbekistan is a dictatorship, the economy and life there is crap. I used to live there when I was a kid. People there are suffering! There is no free speech. Say something bad about the President, and you'll get arrested! The media there does not tell anything. Americans right now know more of what is happening in Uzbekistan, than citizens of Uzbekistan in other cities! ( Damn you liberal media for telling the truth, lol ) A lot racism, discrimination, crappy economy and corruption. Uzbekistan is an Easy target for terrorist. It boarders Afghanistan and the only thing that separates two countries is a river that is 30 meters wide.

we have to keep our base there as it is strategic to our operations in Afghanistan. Who cares if the little dictator boils and tortures innocents. It is worth the price to have our place there! Right chimpass**??

God I would Love for ONE stinkin reporter to ask that asswipe the difference between Saddam and Karimov!!

9. I think this is only the beginning.
First, it was Afghanistan. Then Iraq. Next Abu Ghraib. Last straw = US interrogators flush the Koran down the toilet.

People have reached their limit of tolerance, and who can blame them. I'm not sure any backpedaling that the Bush administration does at this point will help. All they do is talk, anyway. They talk, but they never deliver.

I have no trouble envisioning a Middle East and outlying areas inflamed with tension, bombings, protests on a daily basis.

And sometimes I wonder, is this maybe what they want?
