It was a misinterpretation of a Yahoo story from another thread, which recalled the Fletcher-Reagan incident at the end of the story. It was confusing. You had to read it twice to realize. Good example of how perfectly plausible rumors get started when dramatic incidents happen, especially with this madcap regime in control.

But, then Fletcher's original, less spectacular fly-over during the Reagan funeral was good timing, and it could have been a sneaky trial run for this event, so it's worth keeping in mind, I think.

Whatever the case, it achieved its purpose. It scared people.

The flight rules had been a concern of Martin's when he discussed the pair's plans to fly from Smoketown Airport in Lancaster County to attend an air show in North Carolina, said his father, Mel Martin.

"The last thing he said before he left was ... 'I hope we can avoid those no-fly zones,'" Mel Martin told reporters outside his son's home in Akron, Pa., shortly after learning that the men were being released.

Troy Martin ... also told his wife, Jill, that he was aware of flight restrictions. "Troy was discussing with me last night, after they made their flight plans, all about the no-fly zones and how they were going to avoid them. He said they were going to fly between two different restricted areas," Jill Martin said Wednesday. But somehow the two men ended up flying straight toward the government buildings in downtown Washington before aircraft were dispatched to intercept and escort them to an airport in Frederick, Md.
