CBS News: Putin Blasts U.S. on 'Democracy'
Edited on Fri May-06-05 01:46 PM by evlbstrd
(CBS) On the eve of a meeting with President Bush in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin lashes out at the American president, raising questions about his election in 2000 and his decision to go to war in Iraq.

In an exclusive interview to be broadcast on 60 Minutes, Sunday, Putin tells Correspondent Mike Wallace that he (Wallace)should question his own country's democratic ways before looking for problems with Russia's.

The Russian president also says the United States shouldn't try to export its democracy, as it is trying to do in Iraq. Excerpts from the interview, conducted earlier this week in Russia, will be featured tonight on CBS Evening News.

1. I hope he mentions that U.S. is #24 re press freedom
Per Randi's show yesterday, there are 24 countries whose presses are considered more free/reliable than the so-called "media" in this country. We have a lot of nerve lecturing any nation about democracy these days!

2. The article specifically mentions the 2000 elections and Iraq.
The interview may be even more in-depth.

8. Bush didn't even know that the Kremlin was beautiful
During his first visit, he was stunned that the Kremlin was filled with gold and jewelry and many times more decadent than the White House, so he drolled for a long time and could just utter 'It's Beautiful'

'Beautiful' Moscow Gets Lavish Praise From Bush

By Andrei Zolotov Jr.
Staff Writer

Even before seeing St. Petersburg, U.S. President George W. Bush seemed awed by Russia's imperial splendor. During Friday's talks in the Grand Kremlin Palace, he kept craning his neck to take it all in.

"It's beautiful, just beautiful," Bush said, while gazing at the gilded ceilings of St. Catherine Hall, where the delegations first met at 10 a.m. on Friday.

9. W just read his soul wrong ... dyslexic as usual. Or,
from Pooty's comments above, I'd say he has Jedi mind-control skills, and he made "Georgie the Weak Minded" see what he wanted him to see.

Fool him once, shame on you.
Fool him twice ... errrr ... can't get fooled again.
Right ? :freak:

Edited on Fri May-06-05 02:05 PM by Strawman
"who the hell is this ex-commie KGB agent dictator to lecture 'murika and our President about democracy?"

and all the "treasonous" liberals are supposed to say: "he might be an asshole but he's right."

Whatever, CBS. Thanks for that alluring preview.

:boring:

10. ".... raising questions about his election in 2000 & his decision to ....
... to war in Iraq."

Here's a simple way to frame it: Illegitimate president starts illegal war.

Wonder how Mike and the CBS executives who report to Rove are going to spin it.

15. Well CBS will be the last to open up that can of worm.....
after the Rather Incident....I doubt that they are all that gun-ho to be the only ones in the room with their hands raised. It's not like there's any other corporate media left willing to have their news agencies do what news agencies should do.

In reference to Putin, this guy is as calculating as they get. I think that he is far from being a good guy....but he is a strong challenger to Bush on many different fronts, and they both know it.

Putin wants Russia to once again become the power that it once was....but based on the U.S. model (Not the former USSR)....without all of the extra frills of Democracy that we once had.

In essence, Putin is a Russian Bush with a different objective. Bush wants the US as the leader in a world ran by Global Corporate imperialism, and Putin wants Russia to recapture the status as a "superpower" it once had.

Bottomline: Both men (the monkey & PootyTwo) are estremely dangerous, with Bush leading by a nose.

and no one really talk about Chechnya....cause neither want us to.

17. Nobody talks about nuclear disarmament either
Edited on Fri May-06-05 02:42 PM by DrDebug
Clinton and Jeltsin made an agreement that each was only to have 2,200 missiles. But it seems both * and Putin agree to forget about that deal...

Jeltsin was probably drunk and Clinton lured him into the plan. It seems like the roles are reversed now.

18. Agree, and it's part of the challenge, IMO.
Edited on Fri May-06-05 02:49 PM by FrenchieCat
Certain issues, Bush and Putin prefer not to discuss as it is in both their interest not to. Other issues....such as the regression of Russian democracy can be met head on with regression in U.S. democracy.

One says check...

Then the other says check...

But the Checkmate option is not part of this particular game between these two.

16. A few years ago Wallace would have noted this in person to Bush.
Shows how far and how low we have fallen when a Russian President former KGB points this out to the "liberal press".

19. I wonder how Bush will be greeted, if this is
the prologue? Do I detect a HUGE resentment, from Pooty? I think the answer is yes.

Of course, this is nothing more than a War of Words. Bush insists on showing the world how ignorant he is (Old Saying = keep your mouth shut & risk having the world believe you're an idiot, rather than opening your mouth & proving it).

Write it off to Idiocy, Vladimir. Bush can't help himself. He's got the world in his audience, and he's got a microphone. Let the fool talk. I wouldn't take it personally, though.

Putin is like Dubya's daddy (agency wonk). Bushy jr ain't in the same league as Putin (of course he is working on it, ie Iraq). This won't be a pretty visit, hell they might decide to get together and start up the Cold War again (to get the economy back on its feet et).

bloody, grisly, shame-inducing nightmare that's called "The War on Terror" anyday...at least there was some rhyme and reason to it.

Where did that gut-wrenching photo come from?
