A bill increasing campaign spending caps by millions of dollars for politicians in statewide races next year sailed through the House on Thursday.
The measure (HB 1589) passed 81-36 after nearly an hour of debate and the addition of a minor amendment.
That proposal (SB 2176) was put on the Senate calendar Thursday and could be voted on early next week. If passed and signed into law by Gov. Jeb Bush, the new limits and other provisions of the bill would take effect Jan. 1.
Three amendments offered by Democrats were defeated in Thursday's House debate on the 86-page bill.
"The parties are running the system right now," complained Rep. Bob Henriquez, D-Tampa.

complaining. AP probably would describe a Republican disagreeing as "observing."
Isn't this all overkill by now?
