Evolving Untruths - ABC News
http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/world/US/uranium030714_timeline.html

Major combat in Iraq is over, but some of the evidence President Bush used to justify the war is still being hotly contested.

In January 2003, the president used his State of the Union speech to argue for war on Iraq. He said: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

Those allegations has turned out to be false, and now the president is facing one of his biggest political challenges since the war on terror began.

ABCNEWS has assembled a timeline to help readers understand how the false information made it into one of the president's most important speeches.

1. NIGHTLINE never mentioned
Occupying US government headquarters is located at the REPUBLICAN PALACE. The reporter would only say a former saddam palace. ASSHOLES! And they were straight up chilling too! AC, large lunch areas, clean, fan, furniture. I guess they stopped the vandalism of the REPUBLICAN PALACE because it was built in their honor.

9. Republican has many meanings
The actual meaning of the word republic is as follows:

1 a (1) : a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and who in modern times is usually a president (2) : a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government b (1) : a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law (2) : a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government c : a usually specified republican government of a political unit

So the Republican Palace, which was incidentally also known as the Presidential Palace, in fact has NOTHING to do with American politics or the party of the same name.

3. It just occurred to me
that if the press had carefully investigated the accusations about the trashing of Air Force One and proved that the allegations were false, then the Bush administration would not have assumed that no one would ever challenge their lies.

4. The wording of the SotU address alone is enough to finger Bush as a liar.
Why else would he say 'The British government has learned...'? Because he knew it was a bullshit claim, and was trying to be cute. I can't believe anyone is still taking this stuff seriously; Bush should be getting BBQ'd for this.
