Deadly influenza virus shipments missing: WHO
Health experts have destroyed most samples of a deadly influenza strain mistakenly sent to labs around the world; but two shipments meant to reach Mexico and Lebanon are missing, UN officials said Friday.

"We don't know where these boxes got lost, but the investigation into what has happened between the shipment of these panels and their non-arrival is ranking very high on our 'to do' list," WHO influenza chief Klaus Stohr said, referring to the Mexico and Lebanon shipments.

,...or reckless or just plain stupid!!!

Of course, this COULD just be BS to keep the public in fear of doomsday. All I know is that the whole situation is really unbelievable.

6. Now the shipments that were sent out contained the actual....
...deadly 1950's flue virus strains and not vaccines against these strains. So the lost boxes could be turned into weapons in the wrong hands if not found. That makes these strains worth millions of dollars on the terrorist open market.

7. Why does the govt. outsource this danger ? Reminds me of HotZone
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 04:11 PM by EVDebs
book where Hazleton Research Products of Reston VA was apparently outsourced some research on monkeys, monkeys from the Phillipines which originally came from Africa that had ebola virus.

http://www.slywy.com/bookreviews/hotzone.html

Meridian, the Ohio bioscience company that was outsourced the research in the current scandal, had no oversight -- apparently-- from the CDC or USAMRID.

Looks like some pretty stupid activity from some, supposedly, intelligent scientists. Where are the common sense oversight and regulatory checks and balances ?

8. Do you hear that? Not quite sure what it is?
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 04:15 PM by NNN0LHI
It is the sound of the goons at CNN cuing up the "be terrified of the deadly flu virus" music you are about to be hearing every day all summer long. It kind of sounds like the soundtrack from the movie "Jaws". Just sped up a bit and with slightly more bass. You will learn to love it too. it will be like that catchy little tune that you just never can seem to get out of your head. Even when you are sleeping.

12. That is what I
am guessing. Keep us scared and we will look to Big Daddy Bush to save us. It could be a real threat but then again.... I am really tired of this.

13. Let me get this straight.....
They shipped a deadly virus all over the world last October. They just found out it was a virus that shouldn't have been shipped, AND they just found out there are 2 shipments that didn't make it to their destinations, AND finding them is high on their "to-do" list? Why wasn't it high on their to-do list last October when the shipments disappeared????????? They should have known about it last October, the labs that were expecting them would have notified them the package didn't arrive..these are virii we're talking about, not tinker toys.

21. Even if they did know about it in Oct.
they wouldn't have said anything before the election. I don't need the "alert color code" to numb me, I just keep up on what's really happening.

15. True. But it's not just bush. It's republicans in general.
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 04:55 PM by loudsue
They are taking ALL controls off of everything they possibly can, EXCEPT for people's private lives. They're controlling everything now. Dems control NOTHING.

They're just a bad bunch of apples. The whole lot of them.

On edit to add: If the republican congress wanted to straighten out george bush, they COULD. They're in control. But they won't, and they don't want to. So that's why I blame ALL of them.

Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 04:54 PM by shadowknows69
and why is his head not on a pike yet? We sent a deadly virus to labs in Lebanon? A known terrorist state or so we say. Stephen King should never have written the Stand because apparently it's going to come true. I just hope I'm left in the group that gets to make the final battle against Randall(GWBush)Flagg.

23. Only affect those under 37, like ALL OUR TROOPS.
I think that was 1968 for that flu. Our troops were limeted to age 34, then recently upped to 39. I bet none of them, 1968 two-year-olds included, have any immunity to this flu.

Which direction does the battle of Armeggedon go?
