Ottawa pulls support for Iran forum

Steps up calls for Kazemi probe `Canada is clearly unhappy:' Minister

OTTAWA—In the wake of the details of the torture and murder of Zahra Kazemi, the federal government has cancelled its support for a conference promoting agricultural exports to Iran, planned for April 13 and 14 in Montreal.

"Canada is clearly unhappy with Iran and clearly unhappy with the actions that they've taken," Agriculture Minister Andy Mitchell told reporters yesterday.

Pettigrew told the House of Commons he had spoken to the Iranian foreign minister on Tuesday and asked him when the court appeal that the family had asked for would take place.

"They are committed to having an appeal and the Iranian government has not yet announced that date," he said.



I'm curious to see how Iran responds to this.

I suspect that Iran may react positively, but delay until just before the conference date.

But that's over a month away . . .
