Downing St officer shot herself

An elite woman police firearms officer who worked on security at Downing Street shot herself after suffering depression over a double family tragedy, an inquest heard today.

Pc Amoreena Adams, 31, shot herself once in the head with a 9mm Glock handgun she had drawn from the armoury where she worked.

Her body was found in a basement boiler room at the Territorial Police Headquarters at Victoria Embankment last August.

Pc Adams, who worked for the diplomatic protection squad, had mysteriously left her post as the armourer. Her body was found several hours later after a search of the building.

The court was told she suffered depression and "flashbacks" over the deaths of her brother at the age of 14 in 1990 and her father four years ago, who hanged himself in his garage.
