KABUL, Afghanistan - The U.S. military said yesterday that insurgents in Afghanistan were becoming more active now that winter is over. The assessment came a day after attacks killed five people and wounded five others around the country.
Two people were killed and five wounded on Friday when a bomb exploded on a tractor-trailer in the northern city of Mazar-e Sharif, local officials reported.
Also on Friday, three truck drivers bringing fuel from Pakistan for U.S. forces in southern Afghanistan were killed when they were ambushed by suspected Taliban members at night on the road from the border town of Spin Boldak.
Two of the drivers were Pakistani and one was Afghan, said the deputy police chief of Kandahar, Gen. Salim Khan.
