Neil Young recovering from brain aneurysm
Apr 1, 7:26 PM EST

NEW YORK (AP) -- Neil Young was treated for a brain aneurysm this week and remains hospitalized, although doctors expect a full recovery, his publicist said Friday.

The 59-year-old rocker underwent a procedure to treat it Tuesday night at a New York hospital, where he was expected to remain for a few more days, publicist Bob Merlis told The Associated Press.

Dr. Pierre Gobin, who performed the procedure with another doctor, said: "Mr. Young had a dangerous brain aneurysm and was treated successfully by the minimally invasive neuroradiology team here. He is now resting comfortably ... but we strongly recommend that he not travel for several days."

Young had been expected to perform Sunday at the Juno Awards - the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys.

Wow, lucky fellow. I guess? Most people don't survive from a brain aneurysm. Hope ol' Neil gets well soon.

7. Rock legend Neil Young recovering from surgery after brain aneurysm
Rock legend Neil Young recovering from surgery after brain aneurysm

April 1, 2005

WINNIPEG (CP) - Rock legend Neil Young was recovering Friday from surgery to correct a brain aneurysm.

His doctors said he's expected to make a "total recovery." The news cast a pall on this year's Juno Awards, which were organized around the attendance of Winnipeg's biggest musical export. The normally reclusive Young was scheduled to kick off Sunday's show.

"I'm really disappointed that I won't be able to make it to Winnipeg," said Young in a statement from his hospital bed at New York's Weill Cornell Medical Centre.

...

"Mr. Young had a dangerous brain aneurysm and was treated successfully by the minimally invasive neuroradiology team," said Gobin in a statement. "He is now resting comfortably . . . but we strongly recommend that he not travel for several days."

14. I wonder how the heck they figured out he had one?
Most of the time you only find out when it's too late. However, if it is diagnosed before something happens, the outcome is usually pretty good. As a matter of fact, my dad has a heart aneurysm that he's lived with for years. He just goes and gets an MRI every 6 months to make sure it hasn't gotten any bigger. Go figure.

15. already posted with link from canada
appropriate as he is canadian

glad recovering, this adversity could spur more creativity in him

alot of so called music acts today are simply businessmen/women who happen to play instruments

artists create for mind, body and soul, if money comes, that's gravy, secondary

excuse me for being a little anal about rules here

'bout week ago my thread Vets for Peace call for ImPeach was locked- when I heard it live in public speech by Mike Ferner, and found speech at SmirkingChimp

long time poster said not a news source and was locked

and now on March 30th the Baltimore Chronicle is reporting it

is not Democratic Underground a news source

if we only depend on the AP or CorpMedia as news sources

how can we break new ground?

thanks for 'trying' to post your Vets for Peace piece.

Although I didn't see it, perhaps it might have been better considered for 'news' if it was in the form of an official press release (statement) from the organization. Dunno. Ask the admins in the 'Ask the Admins' forum.

Get well Neil!!! We need you to keep on rockin in the not-so-free world!!!

16. I hope he didn't overdo things on the Vote for Change Tour!...

I know he put his heart and soul (and perhaps his health as well) on the line for those shows. In the Dave Matthews concert I saw in Ames with him coming in half way he had the place rockin'! Glad I got a chance to see him if he has a hard time getting over this! But I'd much rather be able to see him be in full health and do it again in 2006 or 2008.

...his performance at the 9/11 benefit.

He had the balls to get up and sing John Lennon's Imagine.

For an atheist like me, that was SUCH a relief from the non-stop religious chatter going on at the time.

19. Get well soon, Neil!
This sounds like a very dangerous situation, which could have been fatal or catastrophic, in which a timely medical treatment spared someone. A little zig or zag, and the headline could have been muich different.

I am so very glad to hear Neil is okay.

Yikes -- I don't know how his doctors are going to get him to rest for a few days though! From what I hear, he's an extremely driven artist.

I'll watch Dead Man in his honor tonight -- Neil did the soundtrack, and it is a masterpiece.

32. He is so fortunate....
A guy I have worked with for 20 years just died from a brain aneurysm. 47 years old. He got up one day, went to work, normal day, just another groundhog day, was driving home, felt dizzy, pulled over on the side of the freeway, had an aneurysm, someone pulled over, called 911, ambulance came, took him to the hospital, was expected to recover, something happened, had a 9 hour brain surgery, they thought it was a success, coma deepened, he died a few days later. Left a young son, no warning, just here today, gone tomorrow. very sad for everyone who knew him. Moral of the story, make the most of each day, STEAL BACK YOUR LIFE before it's too late, and don't be ignorant enough to smoke cigarettes and think they won't kill you.

died suddenly of one. She would be 34 now, and my husband and I sometimes talk about what she would be like today, if she were still with us. I know he will never stop grieving, but she was too young to really experience life. So very, very sad.

33. he's lucky- my good friend Dennis Dannelle(Social Distortion) died from it
it caught him totally unexpectedly in his driveway in Newport Beach.
Very sad when it happened because he just had a new baby.

At least Neil Young lived !
How many people get THAT chance?
not many--

Now he can get some medical attention and live on to write more songs.

Keep on Rockin in the Free World Neil!

(I was there at the filming of the Free World video --it was on a full moon in a scrap yard in the SF Valley !!!! )

36. yep, it can happen just like that--no warning
I guess heath and diet might help but even then you never really know-

none of us know when we will go-
-but we all act like we're going to live forever-
To me it's like this:
when it's your time to go NOTHING can stop it, and when it's not nothing can kill you.
--and that time is pre-determined before you are born--

just my take on it

40. i believe there are no accidents.
i have never thought about death being pre-determined before birth. i will think on this, though! what an intersting thought.

but i do believe that when it's your time, it's your time. i also like "when it's not nothing can kill you." that is very powerful! i will carry that with me. thanks.

39. Hey, Hey, My, My. I think Neil Young may NEVER die!
I just get this strong feeling that he's going to endure whatever life throws at him. Watch for him to leave the hospital ahead of schedule. Besides, any being who could so accurately have predicted bu$h thirty years in advance is gonna be hard to kill:

"In a while will the smile on my face
Turn to plaster?
Stick around while The Clown Who Is Sick
Does the Trick Of Disaster."
