DeLay allies draw up plan to hit back -The Hill
Conservative leaders are crafting plans to launch a public campaign to defend House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas).
....
After several participants at the meeting said they would help, DeLay said he hoped the others would, too, according to one person there who spoke anonymously to avoid angering his fellow conservatives.

DeLay reportedly added that it would be “really nice if some calls would originate from you guys into members’ districts letting them know” why they should tell their representatives to support him.

Keene and Paul Weyrich, chairman of the Free Congress Foundation, said DeLay merely expressed his gratitude, and they denied that he asked for favors.
....
Most of the conservative leaders at last week’s meeting who spoke to The Hill said support for DeLay at the meeting appeared to be unanimous. But one who requested anonymity said his group would likely not participate in defending DeLay, and he raised questions about the propriety of tax-exempt groups’ waging a political campaign on behalf of a lawmaker.

2. DeLay's Political Career On Life Support
Editorial, report spell new troubles for DeLay
He's challenged on ethics, position on life support

By MICHAEL HEDGES and SAMANTHA LEVINE

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3106524

A scathing rebuke in a national newspaper with a strongly conservative editorial page and a report that his family had ended life support for his father created fresh troubles for Tom DeLay on Monday, but there were no clear signs that his core supporters were abandoning the House majority leader.

The Wall Street Journal, which in the past has quibbled with DeLay over issues, took dead aim at his ethical conduct.

" ... Mr. DeLay, who rode to power in 1994 on a wave of revulsion at the everyday ways of big government, has become the the living exemplar of some of its worst habits," the newspaper editorialized.

10. The WSJ?
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 10:48 PM by BeFree
What? They pulled the wool back from their eyes? Finally? Maybe?

Even the most casual of DU readers has known of the wolfman Delay's real identity forever, and the WSJ just now is seeing it? Hahahaha! Dumbasses.

Instilled with what must be an LBJ like possibile future, Delay has attempted to garnish power for his own personal ambitions. Name one thing he is famous for that has proven to be good for America? One thing.

The question needed to be answered is: Who the hell is that swarmy little bastard, and how the hell did he get to be so powerful? And, how do we pull HIS plug?

3. Anyone who would help him must surely have a skeleton in the...
...closet that DeLay has hinted could come out. I think DeLay channels J. Edgar Hoover. If you look closely, you'll see that they have the same eyes.

4. They are trying to morph his problems into attacks on all cons
snip>
“I think that conservative groups ought to be concerned,” said Donald Hodel, who recently retired as head of Focus on the Family, “If conservative politicians are singled out for attacks by groups that have allegiance to a different worldview, if leave attacks to the liberal groups, they’re not going to have conservative politicians working for them.”

Blackwell, of the Leadership Institute, hinted that conservative groups will turn the attack back on Democrats and outside groups that are criticizing DeLay’s conduct, issuing a stern warning to Republican lawmakers who hang back from the battle.

“Any politician that hopes to have conservative support in the future better be in the forefront as we attack those who attack Tom DeLay,” he said.
.......................

We'll see how much juice he has left.

Bush has left DeLay for dead already.

It's like Vito Corrleone himself giving you the kiss of death.

7. It appears there is no stink too great...
or corruption so foul that the wingers won't happily embrace and defend it as long as it helps the cause. One has to wonder if there are any means that these people won't go to in order to achieve their dubious ends.

I swear...if tomorrow, we found pictures of Bush and Delay pulling a chain on a goat...then you'd see the media (and all the wingers watching) begin to suddenly defend goat molestation as nothing more than boyish pranks...and the accompanying scandal would just be dismissed as an attempt to besmirch the good name of these upstanding, moral men.

In other words...it doesn't matter what they do. Welcome to the return of Caligula.

22. "Welcome to Caligula"
You about summed it up. I was ranting to hubbie last night about how the entire country has gone mad. Horrible, corrupt, evil men leading us to destruction, the corporate media assisting in the deception of the people, and the happy sheeple displaying their blue inked index finger as we march in protest.

I feel upbeat at the thought that we could possibly get rid of bug man, and with what seems as a good & true Dem. My only hesitation is to ask, what voting system do they use in Delay's district? Delay is sooo dirty & arrogant, it makes me think there may be a diebold connection.

12. Pulling his plug now...
will besmirch the whole administration. And monkeywrench the puke congress. The American sheeple will discover just how anti-American the elite piglicans are, when the leader of the pack is put down in mid-term.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. (Learned that in kindergarten, I did)

25. Like when Gingrich was forced out as Speaker?
At least in that case the Livingston sex scandal further embarrassed the Republicans. They retained their majority, though, once they got that dough face Hastert in office. If Delay goes now we lose a "hammer" for further educating the electorate. Sure he may face indictment in Austin, but the DA there has had some trouble in the past getting convictions on the big name politicians. Can you say "vindication"? No, I hope this little wound in the Republican body politic festers for awhile.

13. By all means, make DeLay the issue!
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 11:04 PM by Old and In the Way
Stand by him fellow Republicans and supporters!

Show America you support:

* Shaking down lobbyists for money, in return for votes.
* Using Children's foundations for funneling money to rent party boats.
* Illegal gerrymandering.
* Bribing fellow Republicans to pass anti-consumer medicare legislation.
* Using Homeland Security funds for political purposes.
* Support Terri, while pulling the plug on your own father.
* Supporting lawsuit reforms that take away our right to sue companies while using the same laws to file a questionable lawsuit to enrich your family.

By all means, show your support for DeLay and let us know that you support his Contract on America.

15. To "hit back"? WTF!
I'm perplexed... they're drawing up plans to "hit back"? Hasn't Delay caused enough problems for America? Why doesn't he do something ethical and stand down.

21. Maybe I am naive, but I think the thing about his father will stick.
As the knowledge sinks in that Delay called someone a murderer for stopping tube feeding when he pulled the plug on his own father, his political fortunes will slowly slip away.

23. Don't you have to be hit before you hit back?
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 02:32 AM by Dr Fate
They talk about "hitting back" when no DEM has yet to really "hit" any Repub in a meaningful way in the 1st place.

We should HAVE attacked DeLay- they are going to accuse us of it anyway.

I at least admire the way Republicans never back down and are always ready for a fight-we should do that more.
