Demobilized Reservists Could Keep Military Health Ins. Up to Eight Years
Demobilized Reservists Could Keep Military Health Insurance for Up to Eight Years
<EDIT> Headline editted for length.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The more than 400,000 National Guard and Reserve members mobilized since September 2001 for the fight against terrorism will be offered the choice of military health care coverage for as long as eight years after they return to civilian life, officials said Thursday.
Only those who remain in the Reserves after they are demobilized will be eligible, said Thomas Hall, the assistance secretary of defense for reserve affairs.

Hall said that in discussing the plan with more than 2,000 Guard and Reserve members in the Persian Gulf recently he heard a great deal of enthusiasm for this kind of transitional health insurance.

"It targets the young men and women bearing the brunt today," Hall said.

Join the National Guard.

Check.

Train with outdated and insufficient equipment.

Check.

Get called up and sent to the front to fight without sufficient equipment, supplies, or protection.

Check.

Families back home struggling and failing to make it without enough income. Some losing homes, businesses.

Check.

No insurance and inadequate health care access after injuries.

Check.

And it took our leaders two years to figure this out?

2. 8 years of health care?
For fifty years of ongoing pain? Has any nation EVER treated a war veteran decently?

3. that's so old school...
the GI bill contributed a great deal to the heights this nations middle class were able to achieve.

i know that would be considered a COMMIE idea by MANY actual leaders and NOT just the wackos on FR.

if our leadership would get-over their hostility to POPULISM we would have the WH and both house for a 1/2 a century, BET.

the remarkable thing about clinton, as we all know, was his populous RHETORIC especially in his campaign speech's, especially his first campaign against an incumbent, victorious WAR president.

but now the DLC acts like it thinks changing tactics now and adopting our opponents who in many cases are much less than honorable and some even downright TREASONOUS.

Dr. Dean knows the score though

peace

4. Only for those who remain in the reserves
So you have to make yourself available to go back to Iraq or whatever?

No thanks.

Also I heard on NPR that the amount of time you get depends on how long you have been in the reserves not on how seriously damaged you are.

This is total smoke screen and those rates are ridiculous for the people coming home disabled because of their duty in Iraq.

This is total smoke screen!
