H. JOSEF HEBERT
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Government employees may have falsified documents related to the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste project in Nevada, the Energy Department revealed Wednesday, a development that could jeopardize the project's ability to get a federal permit.

The department said that during preparation for a license application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission a number of e-mails were discovered, dating back to 1998 and 2000, in which an employee of the U.S. Geological Survey "indicated that he had fabricated documentation of his work."

8. You're absolutely right
Since the selection of December 2000, so many times have I thought "How much worse can it get?" And the actions of this administration do indeed keep getting worse.

5. Frankly, the only surprising thing is that we are HEARING of this!
Yucca Mountain was a BAD idea from the start, and all but the most serious Koolaid abusers knew it.

The basic ASSUMPTIONS were demonstrably wrong; so it's hardly shocking to learn yhat the "research" supporting them was fake.

7. Yup, that's the spot!
They LIED initially, claiming that no water permeates the rock.

Then they re-engineered the specs, to provide protection from all the constantly dripping water...

*sigh*

10. Bush lie documented here: September 29, 2000
Bush says he'd veto Yucca as interim site

CARSON CITY -- Texas Gov. George W. Bush says that if elected president he would veto any bill to send nuclear waste to an interim storage site in Nevada.

A copy of the Bush letter to Gov. Kenny Guinn dated Thursday was released today at a press conference in Las Vegas. It is the most definitive statement Bush has made on the nuclear waste issue.

The GOP candidate said "the Department of Energy has not completed its impact study of Yucca Mountain and important questions of environmental protection and safety have not yet been answered. Therefore, I would veto legislation that would provide for the temporary storage of nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain."

<snip>

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Nevadans should not be fooled by this letter.
