Eastman Machine hit by strike (Buffalo)
Thomas Hartley
Business First

Members of United Auto Workers union Local 936 are picketing Eastman Machine Co., 779 Washington St., in a dispute which the union says involves job security.

The two sides had been meeting in the presence of a federal mediator since late September when a 1-year contract expired. Talks broke off March 11 when no progress was reached. Further meetings have not been scheduled.

UAW area director Kevin Donovan said 20 jobs have been lost since the company shifted some work last year to China where it established a joint venture. Local 936 represents 70 production workers, he said. <snip>
