Gonzales May File Criminal Charges Against 'Enemy Combatant'
The new attorney general signals possible action even if courts order Jose Padilla's release.

By Richard B. Schmitt, Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON — <snip>

The Justice Department is appealing the decision of a federal judge last week, saying that the Bush administration's nearly three year detention of Padilla without charges or access to a lawyer violated the law. <snip>

The Bush administration has argued in court that it has the right to detain Padilla indefinitely based on the inherent power of the president as commander-in-chief.

"Certainly, pursuing criminal charges would be an option that the United States would have," Gonzales said in a meeting with reporters. He added, "That decision has not been made yet."

Whether federal officials could build a criminal case against Padilla has been in some doubt. <snip>

1. what a fucking hack
(so many hacks these days...)

We have an attorney general whose legal thoughts are completely worthless:

"We continue to believe that the United States government does have the authority to detain Mr. Padilla as an enemy combatant," Gonzales said. "We think Congress gave the president that authority.

"These are very, very difficult issues," he added. "The war on terror has generated a host of novel legal issues."

3. this is not surprising.
After all, this is a man who believes there is a legal basis for torturing prisoners. In the war on terror, anything goes as far as Mr. Gonzales is concerned. In his mind Americans have no rights if the President says so. Also, this President says the war will probably go on forever. So, we have no rights.

No, the war on terror has generated a host of reasons to ignore the US Constitution and flaunt international laws. Get that straight asshole A/G.

We have some new torture devices we discovered in some newly discovered writings of the Marquis de Sade, and we would like to try them out on this guy.

7. No one in this country is going to rescue us from this
tyranny. It is too late to discover another continent to which we can flee like the Puritans and others who fled from England. Maybe if we discover Atlantis we could go there.

12. Actually, power is manufactured, in part, from thousands ...
... and thousands of daily transactions. So if people lose their fear, and stop reproducing ruling class ideology, we have a good chance of regaining ground.

8. Movie "Escape From New York"
Impact News

Movie Of Interest

"Escape From New York"

(1981) Directer John Carpenter

We the soldiers of the "National Liberation Front of America", in the name of the workers and all the oppressed of this imperialistic country have struck a blow to the racist police state called the United States of America. What better revolutionary example than to expose the inhuman dungeons that are in reality imperialistic prisons of the presidents own making.

So starts a movie, filmed over 20 years ago, that displays how a society deals with huge crime rates caused by government policies.

The first twelve minutes of this movie gives an amazing insight into what America looks like today. I am simply paraphrasing the dialog.

This is John Carpenter at his finest, showing the audience a close proximity of what the U.S. is going to look like. Complete with a vast security apparatus, growing social gaps, and impoverishment of spirit.

9. but wait a fucking minute... i thought YOU said they were ILLEGAL combatan
aren't ENEMY COMBATANTs at the very LEAST entitled to the protections of the STANDARD Geneva conventions?

then there's the whole constitutional can of worms, since he's an american citizen.

but i have noticed that they flip-flop over the terminology they use to try and justify their ILLEGAL DETENTIONS.

it's a DIFFERENT kinda WAR, eh...

kinda like the one the imperial japanese waged in asia during WWII.

what happened to that TALKING POINT?

peace

10. The Supreme Court dodged this issue
because when they finally got it Padilla had been moved to another facility. The petitioners were told to refile. When they get the next one Padilla could be move again.

I am starting to feel that Amerika is a Fascist Police State.
