Authorities Issue Statewide Alert For 2 Men In White Ford Van

POSTED: 8:11 am PST February 25, 2005
UPDATED: 8:51 am PST February 25, 2005

HOUSTON -- A statewide alert remained in effect in Texas Friday for two men accused of threatening to blow up the Pentagon, KPRC-TV in Houston reported.
Video

Wharton authorities and officials with the FBI and the Texas Department of Public Safety said a man in his 50s and a man in his 20s were apparently upset with the food and service at a McDonald's restaurant in Wharton, Texas, at about 2 p.m. Thursday when they made the alleged threats.

The manager notified Wharton police about the threats, which prompted authorities to issue the statewide alert.

"Two gentlemen made threats toward blowing up McDonald's and also blowing up the Pentagon. By the time officials arrived, the men had already fled the scene. We immediately contacted the FBI, who is conducting the investigation at this point," Wharton Police Department Capt. Richard Coleman said.

Well, McDonalds *AND* the Pentagon. I guess they had something against clowns!

"Coulrophobia" fear of clowns, is not to be confused with Coulterphobia which is the fear of being berated by a conservative shemale.

5. OMGoodness
This reminds me of that incident soon after 9/11 when 2 medical students (dark-skinned - I think they turned out to be Indian) in Florida or Georgia were accused of being terrorists because they were talking about 9/11. They were followed through Florida and highways got shut down - it was out of control. And it was all done on the word of some paranoid moran - she said they were talking about knowing about the hijackings. The whole thing was blown way out of proportion and I think the guys were gonna get kicked out of school for it. Can't remember how it all ended.

Of course, in this case, it could really be 2 crazy men in TX who are pissed off enough at McDonalds to blow up the Pentagon

Somehow I doubt it.

9. I have a friend...
who spent 3 months in prison for something similar.

He was born and raised in Egypt but lives here in the states. While waiting in line at an airport and attendant was going through his suitcase and the employee asked him if he had any weapons or explosives in his suitcase. He said, and I quote, "No I don't have a bomb." Thats all it took.

I felt so bad for him. I couldn't believe they kept him that long.

16. Could be. After all, I know of another Texan who was mad at
Osama Bin Laden, so he blew up Iraq.

Maybe that's just the way some of them think.

8. Puh-fucking-lease.
We Texans speak in hyperbole constantly. Those kinds of 'threats' are nothing but colorful talk down there. If a Texan is going to blow something up, he just DOES it; then he brags about it colorfully afterwards.

10. The media's hyperbole is constant, at least.
"the men had already fled the scene". I think they mean the dudes got mad and left.

Threats to bomb *anything* = not good. Law enforcement's ability to recognize actual threats, not too good either.

12. Reminds me of Perry Mason.
People say things like: "If you ever do that again, I'll kill you."

Next thing you know, the person is on trial.

22. I hope police actually have 'evidence' of what exactly was said.
Like audio from security tapes. If not, I'd be very skeptical.

This could easily be a situation where two customers pissed the manager off (workers too?). Management could have easily lied to police, to get 'even.'

23. I think the manager is lying. He most likely added the Pentagon
thing because he knew the cops wouldn't do anything about it otherwise.
"The FBI said the men were of Middle Eastern descent" Oh, never mind they are guilty. /sarcasm

28. Ah, hell, the people reporting it to the police got it wrong.
The two men were mechanics and were discussing their work: "Dangit, Floyd, c'you imagine drivin' that bomb. Pinto's 'r gone!"

But the food was still lousy at the Micky Dee's.

30. My thoughts weren't as clever as your, but I wonder just how many
people in the country and in the world have said threatening somments out of anger, but NEVER actually intending to follow through? I know I have! I've said "I'm gonna kill him!", or "many other statements that I know better than to put in writing...even here! Don't ya think that's likely what we're dealing with here? Guys had a bad day, and Mickey D's didn't make it better.
