Missoula radio may add liberal voice to mix
http://missoulian.com/articles/2005/02/19/news/local/news03.txt

By MICHAEL MOORE of the Missoulian
No, not that Michael Moore!

Missoula's talk radio scene is pretty monochromatic - conservative white folks.

In part, that tilt to the right has been a function of KGVO Radio's ownership by Clear Channel Communications, the Texas-based media company that owns more than 1,200 stations nationwide.

... But things may be changing, at least a little.

"Our sense has been that a large percentage of people wanted conservative radio, and the demand for something on the liberal end has not been that great," said Jim Miller, operations manager for Clear Channel in Missoula. "But there's been some change nationwide, and there are starting to be enough shows so that you could cover the programming day now."

... Miller said giving Missoula a liberal radio voice would make sense, given its history as Montana's most progressive town.

3. What happened?
Did Clear Channel's lobbying and donating to b*sh not get them what they wanted - the right to completely consolidate media into their hands? Is it payback to b*sh - let a liberal speak! LOL

4. I've been "lobbying" my local radio station in a small
midwestern town of approx. 36,000 to play an alternative to Rush and gave them links to several liberal talk show hosts' sites. The manager said maybe he would in this next year depending on which liberal host comes on the strongest. Hopefully, something will come of this. I just need to keep finding articles on the liberal hosts that play them up like one I found in Newsweek about Ed Schultz. I sent the article to him after we talked just to keep the idea in his mind. Cross your fingers!

5. That's the way to do it
Keep up the pressure as a listener.

ClearChannel is doing this because it's profitable.
