Web sites operator stirs up politics, journalism debate
Scandal places his Pearland-based Internet enterprise under a microscope
By RACHEL GRAVES
Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

Bill Olive/For the Chronicle
Bobby Eberle, former aerospace engineer, operates two conservative Web sites out of his home in Pearland.
Until employing a reporter who used a fake name to gain access to the White House and insult Democrats during a nationally televised briefing, Bobby Eberle managed to keep a low profile while amassing a conservative Internet following.

Though Eberle was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2000, Texas Republican officials this week declined to talk about him and even denied knowing him.

But Eberle — a former aerospace engineer who has never contributed to a political candidate and works out of his $225,000 home in a sprawling Pearland subdivision of new, color-coordinated burgundy and beige brick houses — finds himself a key player in a tawdry scandal that has captivated Washington.

Eberle is the owner, president and CEO of two Web sites, the openly partisan GOPUSA (gopusa.com) and what he says is a nonpartisan news organization, Talon News (talonnews.com).

This is an obvious attempt to rescue Eberle's reputation, by the Houston Chronicle. It claims he's basically a young, naíve newcomer in politics, who never even thought about politics until he got good and hacked about the murders of two young women at the hands of some drunken gang members......

Eberle's older brother, Bruce, runs a conservative Web site, Millions of Americans (millionsofamericans.com). The Chron claims his wife, a neurologist, is a GOPUSA board member. They really, really want everyone to cut this fine man some slack!

I've read there is no blood relation between them. Millions of Americans was purchased by Bobby from Bruce some time back.

6. Here's Bruce Eberle's statement about the merger of the two sites.
Mar 10, 2004

An important message from Bruce Eberle to MillionsOfAmericans.com Activists

I have some good news for you. As someone who opted-in to receive communications from www.millionsofamericans.com you have been receiving regular updates on conservative and Republican issues from me. You're one of nearly 250,000 patriotic Americans who have opted into the MOA web site and have taken action on behalf of important conservative projects and programs.

The good news is that www.millionsofamericans.com is now combining forces with www.gopusa.com to bring you even better reports and news on hot conservative topics. Bobby Eberle (of what you might call the "Texas branch" of the Eberle clan) founded www.gopusa.com several years ago. With news sources across the nation and in key places, Bobby Eberle has created one of the best outlets for conservative news and insight in the nation and today www.gopusa.com has some 50,000 opt-in subscribers.

From what I've heard they are brothers, but at the least they are kissing cousins.

7. The Chronicle seems to buy them as brothers. From the article:
Eberle's older brother, Bruce, runs a conservative Web site, Millions of Americans (millionsofamericans.com). The two sites joined forces in 2004, and Bruce Eberle started referring his readers to Bobby Eberle's site.

He doesn't look a lot like Bobby. Here's his photo from his GOPUSA site.

4. What a crock - new to politics my ass
Here's Bobby's bio from GOPUSA:

Bobby Eberle:
- delegate to the Republican convention of 2000
- In 1999, Bobby was recognized with a unanimously approved resolution of commendation by the Republican Party of Texas for service and dedication to the Republican cause.
- He served as President of the Houston Young Republicans, the Director of Club Development of the Texas Young Republican Federation, and as a three-term State Chairman of the Texas Young Republican Federation. On the national level, Bobby served as Chairman of the State Chairmen's Association. Most recently, Bobby served as Vice Chairman at Large of the Young Republican National Federation, Inc.
- Bobby is a member of Texas Christian Coalition and Texas Right to Life

Sure doesn't sound like a new comer to me.

Here's Bobby Eberle and Bill Fairbrother, who is also on GOPUSA's board of directors at the RNC in 2000.

Notice the fancy outfit. Those outfits were worn again at the 2004 convention by members of a very elite group, The Texas Lyceum Association. In 1998, Bobby was selected as one of only 96 people in Texas to serve on the Board of Directors of the Texas Lyceum Association. George W. Bush was a member of the Texas Lyceum back when he was gov of TX.

Here a picture of them at the 2004 convention.

It sure looks a lot like Bobby on the right giving the devil horns?

Either way, Bobby is no new comer and is very well connected.

8. For such a "non-partisan" guy, he really looks a little partisan,
after all!

How ELSE could you get someone to wear that preposterous suit, and silly hat? He's way over the edge. Past the point of no return.

Really makes the Chronicle look sleazy, doesn't it? Great photos!

"Eberle said his interest was further heightened when, during a trip to Washington, he witnessed American Airlines Flight 77 crash into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

Eberle and friend Bill Fairbrother decided to combine their technical skills and political interest to create GOPUSA."

13. TX GOP officials denied even knowing him?
Oh, puhleeez! That's a load of crap.

No one is going to be able to convince me that someone running a site called GOPUSA, someone that has been published ad naseum by the Moonie Times and Moonie Times affiliates, someone that was involved in the Young Repulbicans, someone whose stated goal is to "spread" the conservative message across America, is NOT a known entity within TX GOP circles.
