Sources told the Daily Mail that the elite Special Air Service (SAS) was thinking about following a move last week by the Pentagon (news - web sites), which announced retention bonuses for its experienced special forces troops.

"The world has changed. It's a money-driven culture now and a lot of young troopers are treating the SAS as a training school for their private careers," an anonymous source was quoted as saying.

"There are three choices: either you offer 'golden handcuff' payments, you make it more expensive for people to buy themselves out, or you let them leave on some sort of temporary sabbatical and take them back later," the source said.

On Monday, the Daily Telegraph reported that some 120 members of the SAS and its naval equivalent, the Special Boat Service (SBS), had left the forces to join private security outfits including Kroll, Controlled Risks and Armour Security.

1. Doesn't the private market just have a fun time with government?
I mean resources are always distributed exactly as they need to be in a corporate world unfettered by regulations. I mean why train their own special civil servants when they can just buy professional one trained at the expense of government.

Makes you wonder about that veterinarian who now heads the FDA (or some such place).

Corporations are just such a breath of fresh air - eh? LOL
