Pentagon to broadcast to millions of U.S. homes
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=4272a7ec26944f6c

Big News Network.com Tuesday 8th February, 2005

The U.S. military is to beam its own news coverage to millions of Americans.

Moving on from its phase of embedding journalists, or as some would say, 'a policy of restricting and contolling the flow of information,' the Pentagon will now produce and disseminate the news itself. It will be beamed to the public at no charge. The servic will emanate from what is known as the Pentagon Channel, an internal public relations television unit within the Department of Defense. It was set up nine months ago.

The government-run TV service will be channeled to the public through EchoStar Communication's Dish Network which will offer the Pentagon Channel to its more than 11 million viewers on a no-cost basis. Programming will appear on the network's public interest channels and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Well CNN you have competition!!!... I can't wait to see their programming...NOT!!!

TURN OFF YOUR TELEVISION!

by L. Wolfe

PART 2
(snip)
Remote Control

Let's go back to the 'remote control' concept for a moment. Back in the early days of television, you had what you could appropriately call some "hands on" brainwashing -- you had that crew from the Frankfurt School operating out of Hollywood, designing the programmed brainwashing messages. But such people as Theodor Adorno realized that this tight control would not always be necessary to accomplish the task. The brainwashing messages of the 1950s and 1960s were conditioning responses in a new generation of programmers who would start having impact on programming content in the 1970s and 1980s.

The operative concept is similar to what Adorno describes with his "forced retardation". You create a society based on the infantilism of the majority of its members; that society, when bombarded with television, becomes increasingly more infantile, more 'dissociative', as we learned from Emery and and his fellow Tavistockian Eric Trist. Under such conditions, the so-called creative individuals, operating within the infantile geometry of the society as a whole, produce new ideas that further feed the infantile, carnal impulses of the individual. This, in turn, plunges the society to a new, 'lower' level of thinking -- People become more stupid, led by their stupid "creative leaders".

The oligarchical elite, through their control over the television and cable networks, as well as the Hollywood studios, and the advertising funding conduits, keep this entire crew of "creative" people in a "controlled environment". It is in that 'indirect' way that they exert a veto authority over what is being broadcast.

The New York-Hollywood social community of "creative" people functions in what the brainwashers call a 'leaderless group' -- They are unaware of the real outside forces that control them, especially unaware of their own brainwashing by 30-40 years television viewing. They believe themselves free to create, but they can lawfully only produce banality.

Maybe Democrats should exert effort in making sure we win in 2008 instead of alleging goofy theories.

124. Ah, typical ignorance....
"I don't wanna look!"

Wasn't that SO much easier just to call it a 'wacky conspiracy theory'?

See? That means you don't have to check out any facts or do any work or anything.

I will check any claim for validity because I do not practice ignorance.

When I checked this election fraud issue I found literally overwhelming evidence that proes these 'wacky conspiracy theorists' are right.

Everyone around the country is using the 'wacky conspiracy theorists' label TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM LOOKING.

And it seems to work well on the lazy and the weak minded.

You can either take the lazy way out, call it a 'wacky conspiracy theory' and be ignorant, or you can review the facts and put together a case against it... but that would take research and learning.

This administration DEPENDS on your laziness so no one notices anything.

So which will it be?

Research or ignorance?

Unfortuantely, the truth of the matter is that Bush won. Even if there were some voting irregularities (and there probably were on BOTH sides) there wasn't enough going on to make a difference of 3 million+ votes.

127. How do you
"steal" an election you win by 3 million votes? Its not like one county in one state made a difference. And I don't believe that the voting machines were rigged or any of that nonsense. It would take hundreds of people to pull off. Additionally, even assuming some secret evidence exists that indicates he might have stolen the election, what do you propose we do? The election isn't going to be overturned. Instead of worrying about the legitimacy of this election, concentrate on 2008.

The election returns match up with most popularity polls. Just about everyone on this board agrees that Bush is a terrible president. I personally think he's the worst we've had since Nixon. That doesn't mean he didn't win--half the people in this country think he's the best thing since sliced bread. Just because we lost the election doesn't mean it was stolen.

Ok, I see what answers I can get for you...
For one, the whole 'machine rigging' thing is a far simpler matter than you've been told.

The opti-scan machines report to a central tabulator - a SINGLE database.

This database was shown to be highly vunerable to a hacking attempt.

It would take ONE person, not hundreds, to fix the numbers in the central tabulator.

OR

The software could be easily encoded BY ONE PERSON to change totals at certain pre-described thresholds.

How easily?

http://www.chuckherrin.com/hackthevotedemo.htm

A chimpanzee was taught to do it. For real.

131. I'm not saying it isn't theoretically possible
I just believe that Bush won, fair and square. I haven't seen anything (and I followed the conspiracy theories after the election) that indicates that the numbers were skewed. I think most people expected Bush to win by the margin he won by. Even Kerry's people indicated that, in the last few days before the election, they were in trouble in Florida and Ohio. While the election could have gone either way it was no huge surprise that Kerry lost.

132. Now, as for the 'three million votes'....
First, we have to look at the exit polls.

Despite what you've been told by Fox news, exit polls have been historically accurate to within a 2% MOE (margin of error) since they came into use in 1980.

http://slate.msn.com/id/1006435/

The ONLY instances where exit polls have exceeded that MOE by a significant margin (that which might be used to prove fraud in a third-world country), are where they were taken AT POLLING PLACES WHERE THE ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES WERE IN PLACE.

So, when someone tells you that exit polls haven't always been accurate, ask them if they know where and under what circumstances those discrepancies occured. They won't have an answer.

THAT kind of a coincidence requires an obscene level of improbability.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/11/3/53438/6175

So then all we have to do is extrapolate the margins into some real numbers-

In just Ohio alone, the MOE was 6.7% in favor of Bush**
http://tinyurl.com/5tveu

Now, if we look at the real numbers;

Kerry - 2,741,167 Ohio votes
Bush - 2,859,768 Ohio votes
Total - 5,600,935 votes
X 6.7% = 375,262 vote swing

even HALF of that swing would have given Ohio to Kerry!

NOW, all we have to do is look at the 15 OTHER states where Electronic machines were used where the MOE was as high as 15% and multiply those results...

It's WELL over three million and could have been done in SO many ways by a VERY few people with very little expertise.

Neat huh?

As I said earlier, maybe us Dems should quit whining about Bush "stealing" the election, when the fact is that Kerry got his ass kicked by Bush and his right-wing buddies. Concentrate on what needs to be done to win in 2008. It would be much more productive.

This is what we'll hear in 2008: "Stop with the crazy conspiracy theories and concentrate on what needs to be done to win in 2012."

Then: "Stop with the crazy conspiracy theories and concentrate on what needs to be done to win in 2016."

I'm sick of it. Like 9/11, the craziest theory is the "official" story.

108. Actually, they don't have to 'do away' with anything....
They've already circumvented them...

Here's a start;

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,999737,00.html
http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2004/01/12_405.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Special_Plans

And here's a good one;
http://www.antiwar.com/orig/leopold11.html

And as for the "dismantling" of the CIA -

"Ms. Miscik's departure is the latest in a series of high-level ousters that have prompted unease within the C.I.A. since Mr. Goss took over as director of central intelligence in September. Of the officials who worked as top deputies to Mr. Goss's predecessor, George J. Tenet, at least a half-dozen have been fired or have retired abruptly, including the agency's No. 2 and No. 3 officials. Much of the top tier of the agency's clandestine service is also gone.

<snip>

The changes at the C.I.A. come as the agency is bracing for a wider reorganization endorsed by Congress and the White House that will strip it of its leading status among the country's intelligence agencies."

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/29/national/29intel.html?ex=1108098000&en=8c43ca0843f9ecfc&ei=5070

There it is, in black and white, the CIA is being sidelined.

This is real.

Then came the OSP and "presto!"... Iraq becomes a threat!

9. Oh, great..maybe they can show UK's new torture show...
C4 lines up Guantánamo-style torture show

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,1408237,00.html

Channel 4 is to broadcast what it is styling a Guantánamo Bay-style reality show that will examine the effects of mild torture on seven male volunteers.

The Guantánamo Guidebook will recreate some of the practices used at the US naval base where hundreds of so-called "enemy combatants" have been held without trial or access to lawyers for nearly three years.

Using an east London warehouse and declassified internal documents obtained from US sources, programme-makers mocked up conditions as they are inside Guantánamo, before subjecting seven volunteers to some of the milder forms of torture alleged to have been used by US authorities.

The programme exposed the volunteers, three of whom are Muslim, to 48 hours of "torture lite" including sleep deprivation, the use of extreme temperatures and "mild" physical contact.

Are the Republicans reading from the Nazi playbook?

What a great idea! Pipe in Pentagon-produced, pro-war propaganda into the living rooms of America.

Let's cook up some Jiffy-Pop, gather 'round the TV and watch "Desperate House and Senate Warmongers". After that, we'll take in, "Lawlessness and Disorder". Then, we'll top off the evening with "The Late Show with Wolfowitz and Friends."

26. Where is your country?
It's probably in the same place mine is. Almost 62 years ago, I was born in a country called the United States of America. Like all countries,it had it's faults, but the citizens of that country tried to do the right thing, and were proud of a tradition of freedom.

That country did not torture, or start illegal wars of aggression against weaker countries, or try to destroy the poor and middle classes. That country is gone, lost to a cabal of arrogant, greedy, bloodthirsty men who would serve their grandmother's head on a platter to Satan himself if it would profit them in any way.

I mourn the loss of my country, as all of us here do. I pray that there is still a chance to stop the insanity, and go back to being flawed but willing to be better, and not turn our backs on every principle our Founding Fathers held sacred.

105. Exactly... they'll tout this as the "No media bias" station.
You can see where this might go:

"Media companies are biased, so they're not valid sources of information -- and something must be done to stop the flow of misinformation! Since the people can now get their news straight from the top, other sources of information are now unnecessary and downright dangerous. Look what happened at CBS!"

And if they can't BAN other news sources, they certainly can make life difficult for them: enormous airwave/bandwidth fees or licensing costs.

All highly illegal, but that's never stopped them before.

They had a saying: In Pravda there is no Isvestia, and in Isvestia there is no Pravda--in news there is no truth, and in the truth there is no news...

They survived by reading the papers like a puzzle. If the fearless leader had a slight cold according to the news, he was at death's door in actual fact. If the fearless Soviet army was making progress in Afghanistan, they were actually getting their asses handed to them. Up was down, right was left, good was bad, black was white.

It seems somehow frighteningly familiar of late.

It's just so much bullshit. A waste of money, but still bullshit.

I don't watch "Reality Must-See TEEEEEEEE-VEEEEEEEEE" like "Survivor" or "Let's eat Bugs and Paris Hilton's Tampoons".
I actually forced myself to watch an episode of "Desperate Housewives" and thought "Well, there went an hour down the toilet..."

Until they FORCE me to sit and watch the "News" on the War Channel, I could give a shit. If the Sheeple get all hot and horney to go enlist after seeing how much "fun" our Holy Warriors are having in the Land of The Infidel, fine. Let 'em go. The Gene Pool needs a chlorine shock-treatment anyway.

Seriously. Think about it.

If the pentagon has it's own channel, real news organizations will have no excuse to use embedded reporters. They will have to go out and *gasp* find news!

Why should I watch FOX, CNN or anything mainstream when I can get the government line directly from the horses mouth?

I think that a Pentagon channel is a lot more honest than most other news-gathering organizations: At least you KNOW what their agenda is.

101. This is very scary.
OK, one person asked isn't the MSM doing enough of a good job for Rummy. I think this is a question we need to pay more attention to. If the paid media has been fine up until now, we must ask ourselves what in the world is the government doing/about to do that they can not risk paid reporters finding out about.

This may just be something that came about from the stuff hitting the fan over paid reporters and now they do not have to worry about that any more.

I think there is something much more sinister going on here. There may be subliminal messages and I do not doubt that for a minute. But I think that would be an added benefit to what they have, not the main objective.

One has to ask what is so bad over there that they can not risk exposure. We all have seen the horrors of what is going on over there. I hope it is not even worse than what we expect. If we have seen the worst (and I hope we have) then we must then ask ourselves is it, perhaps, something more. Maybe something that is coming? Maybe the wide spread war to spread democracy is about to be spread even more?

This is even more scary if they must start their own channel to protect themselves. What on earth are they doing now, and how bad is it, that they must start their own channel. Indeed, the other poster had a great question. If the media was all being paid off and putting such a positive spin on the war and our government, why did they start their own station? This is something we all need to think about.

This is wonderful news - let me explain:

With the pentagoonies directly beaming us their propaganda, it will now be EASY to compare their tripe to what the MSM is blathering under the guise of "balanced coverage". That will make it simple to show how the MSM outlets are little more than shills of government propaganda (peppered with ads to bring us corporate propaganda).

We should be thanking the pentagoons for this fuck-up that will expose them for all to see.

Oops, excuse me - I just realized that this would require the people to THINK FOR THEMSELVES. Like that'll be happening soon.

I lived in a Communist country, Hungary, and during the height of terror and repression in the early 50's, the only radio you were allowed to listen to was a one-channel state propaganda outlet. If you listened to short-wave western news it was punishable by jail time, job-loss, being branded as elitist, intellectual scum and on their list of undesirable citizens. Subject to any amount of harassment and loss of any job beyond manual labour. I think America should start reading books about the joys of Fascism and Communism because at the rate your country is going you will experience this yourselves fairly soon.

What happened to those telephone pole loudspeakers - Outside? They could use those again. Blare them all day and part of the night. Would save energy.

182. First NASA TV, now Pentagon TV? What happened to budget cuts????
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 08:14 AM by proudbluestater
How can OUR taxpayer dollars be going to fund more propaganda, and why, pray tell, do we need MORE propaganda on the airwaves?

If it were not for Link TV and Free Speech TV, I would throw my televison out.

184. The whole point is to put so much information out there
The whole point is to put so much information out there that the cream (good information) cannot rise to the top. That is the whole point.

More noise!! What do you think the Neo Republicans want? Well-informed people?

That is what the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation & Radio Canada) does in Canada! Well informed people make good Liberals (internationalists) and bad conservatives (patriots). Which is a good analogy because Americans will in fact end up listening to CBC if this continues. No regular media will be left in the USA. How savvy and 'American' will you be then?

Shame on McCain! Shame on him. He spend 5 years in a communist prison. One would think he learned to appreciate the value of a culture that is open! But no - flood the americans with all quality of information. Yee Haw!!

186. Not the whole point ...

Beg to differ ... that is undoubtably a major point and the previous
comments about brainwashing (either through over-familiarity or through
more direct methods) are also very true but I suspect that the aim of
this is to show how "all reliable channels are putting out the same
thing so it must be true" - not just making it hard to find the 'cream'
(as you so aptly put it) but completely undermining the existance of
anything other than the party line.

The Pentagon says "X", Fox says "X", NBCwhoever says "X", and only some
obscure foreign channel or - worse still - the Internet says "Y".

"Well it's obvious isn't it? The foreign commie-dominated internet is
lying and trying to smear our upstanding honest but patriotic news
providers ..."

188. We had reached such a pinnacle of news.
We had reached such a pinnacle of news and information. Stories came in from all over the world. And if abuses were taking place somewhere - pressure could be brought to bear (okay not Rwanda). And then this - these fascists. They hate other human beings. They love an ADD world where they are in control of the people. And Democracy was never meant to be that.

190. Sounds like the kind of propaganda that took place in 1939-45 Germany !

Josef Goebels, the Nazi Minister of Propaganda, said, “A lie, if repeated often enough, will be believed.” So that's pretty much what we should expect!

191. Sickening
Particularly in an era when the government borrows money to meet current accounts, I have a problem with it spending money to enter the broadcast business. Unless someone can show me a credible study that this will somehow save money in recruiting costs, this is at best a waste of money, and worst (and most likely), political proganda paid for with borrowed public money. Sickening.

It's in the 9400 channel range. This is where all the "public interest" channels are located. It's not exactly situated between Fox and CNN. The 11-million potential viewer comment is misleading.

It requires a second dish. You have to actually want it to get it. Also, the second dish requires a trickier line of sight. I tried to get it when I lived in my old apartment so I could get Dutch television, and I couldn't because of the grove of trees behind the building. I'm living in a rural house now, and it looks like I still might not be able to get the second dish for similar reasons.

Nobody is forced to watch it.

It will make good subversive remix fodder.

It's called THE PENTAGON CHANNEL. It's not like they're exactly trying to hide anything.

Yeah, I hate propaganda as much as anyone. But I think this new channel is receiving more hand-wringing than it's worth. I guarantee you it will be as exciting and as well-watched as Polka Night on RFDTV.
