Police: Woman Scalps Girl For Offensive Behavior
Police: Woman Scalps Girl For Offensive Behavior

POSTED: 1:25 pm EST February 8, 2005

BOISE, Idaho -- A 16-year-old girl was tied up and scalped by a woman who believed the girl slighted her, police said.

The victim and a friend were visiting Kirkham Hot Springs in central Idaho Jan. 18 with 26-year-old Marianne Dahle, Boise County Chief Deputy Bill Braddock said, when Dahle allegedly tied the girl up and cut away the entire crown and back portion of the victim's scalp.

Authorities have issued a felony arrest warrant for Dahle, accusing her of aggravated battery. She has not been formally charged.

"When I say this gal was scalped, she was truly scalped," Braddock said. "The top of her head, her hair, was completely cut off. The motive, as near as we've been told by witnesses, was retaliation for acting in a way that the adult perceived as being offensive to women as a gender."

2. I was at the ER in L.A. last month and I saw a lady who had been scalped
When I saw her I thought to myself, how in the world does someone get scalped? Well I guess this is one way. BTW, it is terrifying to look at....

6. What happened to the scalp?
Did she leave it there?
Did they sew it back on?
What do put on instead of a missing scalp?

13. The lady I saw didn't have it sewn back on - it was missing
From the top of her forehead to the very back of her neck and from ear to ear it was this red, kinda plastic looking and shiny raw open wound - no skin, just ... open wound. Almost impossible to describe now that I'm trying. I don't know how she got scalped (I don't even think she spoke english, but probably wouldn't have asked her if she did) I started to cry it was so horrifying. Without a scalp to sew on, they had to spray something shiny on her head and then they waited a couple of hours (I was in the same waiting room as she was) and they brought her back in and then put gauze around her entire scalp. Then she left. I don't know if that is normal procedure when that happens, but I was at LA Country ER (they place the uninsured go) so the treatments aren't always the best. I guess it doesn't kill you though. She was walking around normally.

39. took care of a child that was scalped by a dog
and the wound was clean to the bone without any type of tissue. They tried all types of things...wet to dry dressings, etc simply because they weren't sure what else to do.
There is a medical device called a wound vac...it is exactly what it sounds like.
They bored holes in his skull (to allow marrow to come out to form tissue on top of the skull bones) and then enclosed his entire head in a wound vac. The constant sucking of the vac pulled the marrow out to form tissue onto the top of his skull which gave the surgeons something to attach skin to.
At that point, they did skin grafts.
The skin used in grafting however, is generally smooth skin (abdomen, buttocks, etc) and does not grow hair, but does beat the heck out of bandages.

5. Another danger of feminism...
"...retaliation for acting in a way that the adult perceived as being offensive to women as a gender."

So how long will it be before the Falwell/Robertson bunch adds scalping the the witchcraft/lesbianism/anti-capitalist/childkilling results of feminism? :eyes:

offensive to women as a gender b/c the suspect considered the behavior too "morally loose" or unladylike.

11. That is horrible, but it also sounds like a new trend in corporal
...punishment is emerging. Scalping was a practice promoted back in colonial America times dating back to the conflicts between the British and French battalion troops at war with each other. They paid the Indian (native American) mercenaries a bounty for each enemy killed, but to assure accurate counts they required a full scale from the crown of the head clear to the back portion of the scalp. Made no difference whether these scalps came from men, women or children, the mercenaries were paid for each one and it was full-proof as a human being has only one scalp. The perpetrators of these current incidents are very very sick.

16. Just a theory here ...
... but I suspect that the true moral of the story is that you probably shouldn't do certain kinds of hallucinogenic drugs in certain places where you might find your thoughts and your behavior influenced by certain people that used to live there.

Just a theory.

31. ouch
It happens though not frequently, and is fairly easy to do as scalp is loose and flexible. We recently had a young woman whose hair (ponytail) got caught in equipment and her scalp was pulled off. Infections are always an issue initially. You can live without a scalp, but you loose allot of body heat and are exposed to elements. I don't know if skin grafts (auto) are done but it is possible to harvest skin from the person's body. The hair is another story. That is such a gruesome story and a tragedy for the young girl.

42. What in the world is happening to this country?
:wtf:The facts of what happened in Idaho, is not nearly as bad as the L.A. story, a few post down. The woman in Idaho was obviously Psychotic, but the L.A. case it truly sad and disturbing. The Idaho girl should be fine, except for psychologically.

Medically, you are talking Years of reconstructive surgery, which includes skin graphs and the process of implanting a balloon under the skin to stretch it out, then inflating it again and again, until enough skin has grown, so that it can pulled over the skull and joined together. That alone, would probably take a year.

At that point, the person could decide if they want to try Hair implants or graphs.

I hope this doesn't become common.:grouphug:

46. Cruelty?
The cruelty in Abu Ghraib was condoned by the U.S. government. Perhaps that gives the impression that cruelty is acceptable.

After a death row execution, there is an increase in violence for a few days or a week.
