Bottom falls out of dung power market
Times
By Simon de Bruxelles

BRITAIN’S first dung-driven power station is facing closure despite generating enough electricity for 1,000 homes from little more than cowpats.

The project, which has won several environmental awards, was funded partly by the taxpayer but was forced into administration after the German company that built the plant went bust.

The plant was also facing a £250,000 bill to contain unpleasant smells seeping from its giant slurry pit.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the European Union met half the cost of the £7.7 million project but Farmatic Biotech, which designed and built the plant, held the controlling stake. The company went bust in March last year and in January its main creditor, HSH Nordbank, called in a £2.8 million loan to the plant at Holsworthy, north Devon.

4. This Is Unfortunate
This is unfortunate. I hope other groups keep trying to find ways to convert ordure into something more benign.

This technology, or some of the others under discussion, would prove invaluable here in the US as well as in other parts of the world with large-scale ranching and livestock operations. Anyone who has driven past a feedlot (And US 84 from Sweetwater to Texline does go past several of them!) knows that those feedlots generate a lot of waste and bio-contaminants. That waste is NOT going to magically disappear because FAUX News and the Republican Party choose not to discuss it.

I hope that someone keeps trying.

9. You know if we hooked Rush Limbaug and Sean Hannity's mouth
...to the intake valves on those plants, they could probably produce enough power to light all of the UK.
