Prosecutors agreed Wednesday to drop illegal campaign contribution charges against Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc., one of eight companies initially indicted in an investigation into a Texas political action committee.

Cracker Barrel is the third company to have charges dismissed in the case. Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Diversified Collections Services Inc. reached similar agreements with prosecutors.

The companies and three people were indicted in September in connection with contributions to Texans for a Republican Majority, formed by U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay during the 2002 state legislative campaigns.

As in the previous two agreements with indicted companies, the one entered Wednesday with Cracker Barrel calls for the company to cooperate in the ongoing investigation, said Travis County assistant district attorney Gregg Cox.

6. Small problem with the repuke's defense...

Is that the Travis County DA that is doing the investigation, per the repuke-loving Dallas Whoring News, has gone after and taken down more TX Dems than TX Repukes. So while the national repukes can try to claim this is all politically motivated, they may have a harder time explaining away the Travis County DA.

There was an entry in Burnt Orange's blog a few weeks ago when the 2nd company was announced...said that said there were more companies about to start helping in return for dropping charges..guess this one was next up. Are the repukes going to start dissing these companies, as well?? How long before the repukes cut Delay loose??
Will it be one of those "I'm not guilty but this mess is interfering with chimp's attempt to get stuff done so I am leaving" announcements? If he was a female we would be hearing chimp's old standby of "wants to go spend more time with the family in Texas" bullshit line.
