Sheriff Removes Gay Hate Remarks From County Website

by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff

Posted: January 26, 2005 7:32 pm. ET

(Guntersville, Alabama) Marshall County Sheriff Mac Holcomb under pressure from county officials has removed anti-gay remarks he posted on official page of the Sheriff in the County's Web site.

The posting, a letter to his constituents, called homosexuality "an abomination."

The sheriff, reflecting on growing up in the 1940s and 1950s, wrote: "Men were men and women were women and there was no mistaking which was which ... Homosexuality was very queer and a despicable act ... an abomination."

(snip)

But, Holcomb initially refused to remove the message. He has now taken it down from the county site and moved it to his personal website. He defends the remarks though, saying they are his personal beliefs.

After Hunter went public with his complaint about Holcomb he has been the recipient of hate mail from Holcomb supporters. He said it was discouraging until he learned that the hate remarks had been removed.

5. how about the ancient greeks, before the common era?
when relationships between men were common, and by no means outlawed within society? it was seen as a way to keep the men from going crazy while at war by the spartans.

or the romans, when debauchery was common?

please. "when men were men"...i like the first poster's comment best.

at no time in history have "men been men". some men have, in every period of history, had relationships with other men, or just for the sake of sanity had sex. it's only the macho movement of the repugs which makes any sort of relationship with a man wrong. i'm surprised these people actually have male friends.

6. This "Christian" has never read the Bible, apparently.
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." (Matthew 5:44)

"But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil." (Luke 6:35)

Doesn't sound too much like what these so-called Christians are preaching!

8. Signorile got this sheriff on cellphone and interviewed him live on radio
Very funny, especially the ending:

{Sheriff} H: Yeah. Why don't we just, you know, if it's not such a terrible thing, a despicable thing, just in common language, let's put up here{?} what these gays do to each other.

M{ichelangelo Signorile}: Well, you know what they do, sir? They fuck, just like straight people fuck. That's what they do. Okay? You know, straight people--

H: --All I'm saying is {unintelligible}

M: You know, you put your dick in your wife's vagina and a lot of you Christian conservatives also put your dicks in other women's cunts when you're not -- you know, when you're married, and are hypocritical. So gay people, yeah, they fuck just like you fuck. That's what they do. And for many of them it's an act of love--
{crosstalk}

M: And for others of them, just like many of you heterosexuals, it's an act of sheer pleasure, because we live in a free society.

13. at my 'home' board, one of our people wrote to this guy...
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 10:57 PM by LizMoonstar
for sheer comedy value;
here is the text:
Dear Sheriff Holcomb:

I was stirred by your letter posted on http://www.marshallco.org/

But, why stop there? Not only should homosexual marriage be banned in the constitution but homosexuals themselves should be banned. God did not intend for man to lay with man. Additionally, there was nothing wrong with segregation in schools. After all, everyone was still equal but seperate, am I right?

Don't you agree that things were simpler and easier back then when you knew which school your son or daughter attended and which school a person of color would attend?

Life was simpler back then, was it not? Also, why do we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day? He was a trouble maker who hated the status quo. In modern days he would be called a terrorist because he tried to upset the proper, American way of life.

Would you not agree that the only way one can protect our freedoms from Islamic fundamentalism is by remaining morally strong--for example, getting women to dress more decently and outlawing homosexuality--encouraging family structures where men are proper heads of the household, bowing down in prayer several times a day, occasionally fasting, donating a small percentage of our wages to help the less fortunate amoung us, and by just generally submitting ourselves to God's will.

Sincerely
{name removed since I don't know if he wants it over here}

May God bless you and your family

The point being that all of the last paragraph is the tenets of the Quran generalized, in case it didn't seem clear.

We're hoping he responds - if we get anything, I'll post it here if anyone's interested.
