Colorado Gay Bill Advances
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/01/012605colBias.htm

Legislation to ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation has passed a key Senate committee.

The bill still must go through two more committees before proceeding to a vote in the Legislature, but LGBT civil rights activists say they are hopeful that it will pass. For the first time in 42 years Democrats are in a majority in the Legislature.

"We should not be in a position today where we allow someone to be fired just because they're gay or lesbian," said Senator Jennifer Veiga (D) the bill's sponsor.

2. good sign
I really think my state is turning more liberal. Yes we voted for Bush, but we took back both houses of congress.

This legislation is long overdue.

3. I didn't vote for Bush.
I voted for my conscience: Howard Dean.

5. I am a Coloradoan...I am so proud this is happening here.
This state was really purple this past election. I am proud that there are those in the capital that are for the basic human right for a person to be able to make the choice, on who will be their life-partner.

Ironic that Musgrave and Senator Allard are working to intorduce a constitutional ammendment that would ban Gay marriage. When will these people stop?

7. But have they passed verifiable voting, yet?
That's what counts first.

Otherwise, they'll all get voted out next time and this bill will get reversed.

Verifiable voting FIRST!

Nothing else we do is more important.

8. Interesting. As a Virginian who lived in Colorado for five years...
(and would love to go back), I always wondered about how the state could vote so conservatively so consistently. It was a little bit of a mystery to me. So the "blueing" of Colorado is not so surprising to me. When I was there, it seemed to me that there was an anti-Texan/southern thing going. Nothing hardcore--just a general sentiment. I wonder if this isn't a reaction to red overkill? Lately I've been arguing that the Republicans/social conservatives are going to overreach over the next four years and we'll see a political correction. It might start in Washington with the social security fight. I think it will go down and we'll see Bush's already low approvals plummet because wishy-washy "undecideds" hate nothing more than a loser.

Anyway, go Colorado!

9. Rural Colorado
The vast majority of Colorado is decidedly not urban. Especially in the mountains, there is a large conservative/ranching ideology. Except for Boulder and some of Denver city proper, there aren't a whole lot of "blue" strongholds. What was especially encouraging from this election year was the gains that the Democratic party made, and not always where they expected it. Routt county (northwest colorado) actually voted more for Kerry than Bush.

12. Strong message since 2 of the strongest supporters for const. amend. are
Senator Wayne Allard and House Representative Marilyn Musgrove, both of Colorado. They must be quaking in their boots now. Bwaaahaahaaa!
