Canadian Prime Minister Threatens Snap Election Over Gay Marriage
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/01/012105martinElect.htm

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin Friday threatened to call a snap election over opposition to his plans to bring in same-sex marriage legislation.

Martin was reacting to claims made yesterday by Conservative leader Stephen Harper' who asserted that same-sex marriage could lead to polygamy. (story)

"I hate to say this but I think you have to draw the line somewhere," Harper told a news conference.

2. Gay marriage doesn't really fire up enough opposition
And Harper knows this so he has to play on fear and exaggeration. Harper is admitting his position is extreme and unpopular.

Go Martin!

4. Harper is a fool!
He mistakenly believes most Canadians support him on the issue of same sex marriage but the polls say otherwise.

For Harper to bring in polygamy is beyond ridiculous but, then again, the man is ridiculous in total.

The faux Conservative party is founded on extremist principles and Canadians know it, the only reason the Liberals have a minority government was they were slapped hard by Canadians for scandals and rightly so yet they still retained power.

5. Oh, I see. Harper only has a problem with polygamy.
So let's outlaw the thing he ostensibly (haha) doesn't have a problem with. Does that really make any sense?

I do not like the taste of your bullshit, Mr. Harper. Please stop feeding it to me, as I would never vote for you anyway.

Do something less hypocritical, like table a motion to outlaw divorce in Canada.

6. If gays want to marry one another, soon they'll want to marry YOU!
Yeah, that's right!

If you let gays marry one another, then some day one of them homos will take you to court and sue for the right to have sex with you and marry you.

Someday, you won't be able to walk down the street out of fear some gay guy will serve you with a subpoena to marry him.

Oh, where will we be the day any gay person can ask a judge to order us to have sex with them?

How will we protect the white women?

7. Oh, the slippery slope,
that trusted friend to the conservofascist who wants to make an unsupportable argument.

Harper's entering Stockwell 'Doris' Day country here, where up is down and the Niagara River flows south.

8. I guess "freedom" is for some people only
What an hypocrite idiot Harper is. Marriage is a contract, if two or more consenting adults want to enter into such a contract, let them be.

9. okay, so it's not "box turtle" quality material ...
But it's still pretty funny -- the spectacle of Stephen Harper even uttering words like "polygamy". I assume that his brain would implode if anybody explained the concept of polyandry to him!

Conservatives and "group" relationships -- the comedy group "The Frantics" did a skit in the 1980s called "Clarkigula" (Joe Clark at a Roman orgy!) -- but Joe, at least, didn't threaten to split the country on ethnic lines. (He was even Grand Marshal at a gay pride parade in Alberta recently, as I recall.)

10. he forgot man on dog...
seems like Harper's been going to some right wing Republican seminars on talking points to stir up hatred of gays...

Don't think it'll work in Canada, most people there seem too reasonable.
