NEW YORK (Reuters) - Oracle Corp. said Tuesday that the announcement on layoffs at recently acquired PeopleSoft Inc. would come on Friday.

Oracle's Chief Financial Officer Harry You told Reuters on the sidelines of the Needham & Co. Growth Conference that the layoffs would come Friday. He would not specify how many jobs would be lost, except to say Oracle will do what makes financial sense.

Industry analysts have estimated at least 6,000 jobs may be lost.

5. Actually, this has far more to do with Larry Ellison's ego than Bush or
the economy.

Oracle is simply purchasing (and eliminating) the competition. A number of my friends will be really screwed by this. I hope Oracle loses HUGE $$$ on this sham.

6. LeftCoast is on the money...
...Larry Ellison couldn't care less about the employees of PeopleSoft, although I suspect a good number of them will be hired on with Oracle. He only wanted PeopleSoft to go away, and that's what he's spend the last couple of years doing. Making it go away.
