Afghan Govt holding talks with Taliban

KABUL, January 08 (Online): Afghan government is holding talks with Taliban.

Governor of Paktia Province Asadullah Wafa while talking to Radio Tehran said that Afghan government is holding talks with Taliban in Paktia, Paktika and Khost provinces and they are willing to surrender.

He said that Taliban feared arrest. He said that government will issue a special card to each surrendered Taliban activist and he will be allowed to move freely in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Taliban Spokesman while rejecting the claim said that Afghan and US forces are issuing baseless statements to create rift in Taliban ranks.

2. Why talk surrender? They are "winning."

Isn't most of Afghanistan, sans Kabul, controlled by warlords who are either sympathetic or indifferent to the Taliban?
