AP/MSNBC: Republican challenges Washington vote
Democrat won governor’s election by 129 after two recounts
The Associated Press
Updated: 6:54 p.m. ET Jan. 7, 2005

BELLEVUE, Wash. - Republican Dino Rossi and the state Republican Party announced Friday that they would contest the governor’s election that gave his Democratic opponent, Christine Gregoire, a 129-vote victory.

Republicans have been building a case over the past few weeks, gathering evidence of voting irregularities, including illegal provisional ballots and a handful of votes cast by dead people. They are pushing for a revote, an unprecedented step in a statewide election.

Former U.S. Sen. Slade Gorton, R-Wash., a supporter of Rossi, said he believed the Republican had enough evidence to support an election challenge. He pointed to questions about mishandled provisional ballots in King County.

They will never, ever stop. How much do you want to bet that the dead people are people who died in between voting (absentee) and election day?

1. If they want to push for a re-vote then let them.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

2. It's okay for rossi to contest after two recounts..BUT
when Conyers and Boxer stand up for voting rights then they are unpatriotic. Why do Dems fall into the fascists' traps?

What Would Tom Delay Say?

Many observers will discard today’s petition as a partisan waste of time, but it is much worse.

It is an assault against the institutions of our representative democracy; it is a threat to the very ideals it ostensibly defends.

No one is served by this petition, not in the long run.

And in the short term, its only beneficiaries are its proponents themselves.

Tom Delay, 1/6/05

6. This is hilarious
1) The Dems control both houses of the legislature.

2) Gregoire will be inaugurated Wednesday.

What will Rossi hope to acheive if he continues on this tack? Is he hoping for a new election in March or April? Shall he move to Idaho and become Washington's Governor-in-exile?

10. He's hoping to cast doubt on her victory
To give his supporters something to whine about for the next four years. That way whenever Gregoire does something that they don't like, they can always fall back on the, "She cheated" excuse.

17. Cracks me up.
They have a problem with King County and they filed their challenge in ultra-red Chelan. The usual judge shopping.

Any legal minds out there know what our recourse is if they find a redneck judge to toss out the whole election? Is it back to the state supreme court?

19. What their lawyer said during the televised conference today is
that they filed in a county court because the state supreme court had already told them (via the Democrat's lawsuit in November) that the supreme court is not set up to accept evidence. They expect it to end up in the state supreme court regardless.

They claim that many of the problems were in Chelan County so therefore they filed there. Right. Yeah. Whatever.
