DNC chairman preps Kentucky Democrats for campaign ahead
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP)

Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe pumped up state party members on Saturday, framing the governor's race as a prelude to an upset of President Bush in 2004. ---

The Republican Governors Association has aired a TV "issue ad" in western Kentucky praising Fletcher, but not specifically asking anyone to vote for Fletcher or against Chandler.

The Democratic campaign, saying the governors' association takes corporate contributions, has contended that the ad amounts to a contribution to Fletcher's campaign.

Corporations cannot legally contribute directly to candidates in Kentucky, and the law limits contributions by individuals and the political parties to $1,000 per election. There is no limit on what donors of any kind can give to organizations such as the governors association. ---

1. Well
From what I've heard Chandler has been running a good campaign. He may still lose, but according to Sabato he is more aggressive than Fletcher is. He might just eke out a win.

2. Chandler
In the earlier polls, Fletcher was definitely head of Chandler, but Chandler has been catching up lately, and it is looking like support fo both Fletcher and Chandler is about equal...

I just hope that Chandler wins! I've lived in Kentucky my entire life, and in my entire life, we've never had a Republican governor. The last one was Louie Nunn, and I'm not sure when he was in office, but it doesn't matter, I know it was before I was born.

And of course, I'm not sure if this is where I read it or not, but I heard somewhere (it was an ABC or CBS News thing) that the political climate for the Kentucky in the governor's race this year could very likely set the tone for the 2004 presidential race...

3. Yeah
But I've heard that Fletcher has run a lackluster campaign. So maybe he might just be able to eke out a win there.
