Iran Oil Minister in Islamabad on Jan 5 (meeting Pakistan's oil minister)
ÊLONDON,Ê Jan 2 ( IranMania ) - Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh will arrive in Pakistan on Wednesday for talks on bilateral cooperation, diplomatic sources said on Sunday. "We can confirm that Mr Zanganeh will be here on Wednesday for a short visit on his way to India," the Press Section of Iran Embassy in Islamabad told IRNA.

It was also learned that he will hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart, Amanullah Khan Jaddun.

(snip)

Zanganeh`s visit is regarded as continuation of the on-going discussions between the two countries to finalise a formal agreement on a bilateral pipeline laying. His talks will take place prior to the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to Iran to preside over the joint ministerial commission meeting.

Cabinet ministers and other high-ranking officials would be part of his entourage. Pakistan is interested in importing gas from neighboring Iran to meet its growing energy requirements. Besides the above-mentioned project, Pakistan is weighing two less-practical options of importing gas from Turkmenistan and Qatar.

3. The thing I found interesting
...is that Pakistan is mulling whether to pick up NG from Iran or Turkmenistan, at a time when Turkmenistan is withholding gas from Ukraine in an effort to get a better price.

Pakistan can afford to pay more than Ukraine... anyone can afford to pay more than Ukraine.

It's a win-win for Pakistan, to buy from Turkmenistan (and make the U.S. pleased) and to not buy from Iran (see above).

I maintain that the best news source on the planet remains Alexander's Gas and Oil Journal. :eyes:
