Associated Press

MIAMI - Two former employees were arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing more than $1.9 million from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Evelyn D. Minott, the chamber's former executive finance director, and Freddy Luna, the former finance manager, were arrested after an investigation into missing funds, the State Attorney's Office said.

An initial investigation revealed that canceled checks from mid-1999 to 2003 were missing, authorities said.

Minott was charged with one count of racketeering, three counts of money laundering and one count of organized fraud, while Luna was charged with one count of racketeering and one count of organized fraud.

2. It sounds like something out of a Carl Hiaasen novel...............
Florida is a seedy, slimy can of political worms. It always has been, and it always will be. It all starts at the top, and oozes down to the lowest levels. And levels are damn low the in Sunshine State.
