CNN: Wesley Clark may announce for presidency next week
From Jonathan Karl
CNN Washington Bureau
Thursday, September 11, 2003 Posted: 2:59 PM EDT (1859 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Wesley Clark has begun building a campaign organization and several people close to the retired general told CNN Thursday they expect him to announce next week that he is running for president.

. . .

Several Democratic sources said Clark -- Supreme NATO commander during the war in Kosovo -- has begun the process of putting together a campaign team, including talking to potential campaign managers.

"There is a lot of momentum here," said one former high-level Clinton administration official who has talked to Clark about a campaign. "It's 90-10 that he runs, but he has not pulled the trigger in his own mind."

Gore campaign veteran Mark Fabiani, who is advising Clark on the possible presidential campaign, cautions that Clark has not yet made a final decision.

1. This is great news
He rounds out the field well and adds a whole lot of depth.

Dean/Clark or Clark/Dean would do it. either way I'd be very happy with that outcome.

2. I'm excited
BTW, see my post about how the Dean campaign is trying to set up Clark by leaking the story he's thinking about being Dean's VP (yeah, right).

3. More details - Arkansas Dem Gazette:
"Sources say Clark wants to wait for any announcement until after Monday,
because if he were to announce before then, he would have to file a quarterly
financial report that would show him far behind most other candidates in fund
raising.
Clark also wants to avoid bumping up against remembrances of the Sept. 11,
2001, terrorist attacks, sources say.
The sources expect an announcement Tuesday or Wednesday in Little Rock."
He'll be on Inside politics today to refute the "Dean's VP" thingy (nice try!)
Good to see the old War Room back and running! The rapid response is astounding!
