Insurgents attack Iraq election offices
http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=640625

SAMARRA, Iraq (Reuters) - Insurgents have launched attacks on election offices in northern Iraq, killing two people and wounding nine six weeks before Iraqis are due to go to the polls.

Police and hospital sources said two people were killed and eight wounded on Saturday when mortars landed on an election office in Dujail, one of many around the country registering and educating potential voters ahead of the January 30 election.

Among the wounded were six Iraqi National Guards, who were guarding the office against attack in the Sunni Muslim town, some 50 km (30 miles) north of the capital.

A mortar also landed on an election office in the oil city of Kirkuk, where ethnic tensions are running high ahead of a poll many want delayed there.

1. Where is this going?
This will be the perfect opportunity for Bush to stand on the soap box and preach about insurgents trying to stop democracy. I just wonder why the offices are being attacked. Who does this really benefit?

3. I wonder if the "election offices" are colocated with the jails.
I have a tough time imagining them as some standalone buildings.

4. Not about freedom.
It's about power.
