Dutch medics call for wider euthanasia laws

A commission of experts assembled by the Royal Dutch Medical Association on Thursday have called for a widening of the guidelines for allowing euthanasia in the Netherlands, to include mercy killings for patients who are tired of living.

The report published on Thursday by the commission is meant as a basis for further discussions on the subject within the medical association, or KNMG.

The advice to widen the guidelines is in clear conflict with those of both the Dutch government and the Dutch courts, who have already ruled against including being tired of life as a legitimate reason for euthanasia.
