WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush's re-election was viewed negatively by a majority of people in several European countries - including those in Britain, America's strongest ally in the war in Iraq, Associated Press polling found.

The president was not the only one viewed unfavorably. Americans generally were seen in an unfavorable light by many in France, Germany and Spain, countries not supportive of U.S. Iraq policies.

1. well at least we are not alone
Seems * is not liked all over the world (no big shock). * is ruining what may be left of any good relations with any other countries/peoples around the world. So, now even Britain isn't loving * anymore (or did they ever really).

:kick:

2. I had a call from a friend in Germany last night
he said that since the election * name has not been on the news, the only news was about Rice getting the "promotion", and about the ongoing horror in Iraq.
He says that * is not worth mentioning in the absence of any personal accomplishment

3. Yesterday, CNN did a story on European reaction and mentioned that
everyone went to sleep thinking Kerry won.

A French reporter did a story on Bush's reelection and then promptly burst into tears on air. In the CNN story, they stated "not very professional but" it pretty much tells you how Europe feels.

Burst into tears on air?!?! Probably the most honest bit of reporting I've heard about in quite some time.

5. We'll see how much worse he makes it
My mum says, "In 4 years, he'll be gone." I guess i should keep
score of the days, like in the old prison movies. They could re-zero
the iraq death count and it'll pretty much track the number of days
he's been in... and perhaps we can make it a marketing advantage to
only talk about bush as "1460 to go".

In the previous 4, he took an immensely positive situation and turned
it in to hatred. In 4 more, he could wind up getting americans
abroad lynched. One thing is for certain, as the bush has come up
in most all conversations with UK people, Americans get no free
ride anymore based on good past actions. Each of us has to make
today's karma with a burden of negativism to start.

The french reporter crying tears really does say my own feelings
as well.

8. original sin
It seems to come with the passport, and the european misunderstanding
about the nature of american government. European systems incorporate
the whole population, and people say "our government", even people
who are in opposition. Rather in the US, it is "the government" or
"bush's criminal enterprise" that is only for him and his cronys,
but totally erases the opposition voices. This is unthinkable in
europe, so there is a presumption that americans (all) are somehow
part of a systemic problem that is bush, kerry voters included.

Once, liberty meant being represented by government, being an
engaged participant... now it means "leave me alone". Positive
liberty, rather than negative, has been forgotten and erased and
those europeans who have the great fortune to have it, presume,
much like americans do, that their state of affairs is the same
as that of americans as well.

Ignorance marches on. . . its a bummer.
