U.S. deserter numbers reach 5,500
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big News Network.com Friday 10th December, 2004

Since the war started in Iraq, the Pentagon says 5,500 U.S. soldiers have deserted, with some of them seeking refugee status in Canada, CBS reported Thursday.

Among them is 26-year-old Jeremy Hinzman, whose Toronto court bid for refugee status wrapped up Wednesday.

Hinzman of Rapid City, S.D., joined the Army in January 2001, and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He said he didn't want to simply get out of the Army.

with the Rumsfeld/armor question, the the resulting cheers from the troops.

I have to admit, that floored me.

I figured there was no way this administration would allow that kind of dissent to air on national television.

I bet some producer is covering snowfall amounts in Siberia right about now.

Sad.

Typo edit.

5. maybe that's why they are keeping reservists confined to their bases
One unit complained they were not able to have leave to go into a neighboring town or to see their families. They must be afraid if they don't keep them locked up, they won't come back.
